Lemon Ray Obituary
Lemon was born June 1, 1923, in Laurens County, S.C., to the late Tobie and Carrie Ray. Lemon moved to Yorktown (Lackey), Va., in 1951.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ozella Ray.
He leaves to cherish a devoted wife, Mary P. Ray; one daughter, Carrie Bunch; five sisters, Elizabeth Phelps of Woodruff, S.C., Levonia Thompson (AC) of Lawrence, S.C., Virginia Hampton of Gray Court, S.C., Dorothy McNair of Newport News, Va., and Nellie Young of Greenville, S.C.; three brothers, Paul Ray (Thelma) of Fountain Inn, S.C., William Ray (Ellen) and Luther Ray (Pat), both of Frederick, Md.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a special niece, Judy Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the funeral home. A celebration of life will take place at noon Thursday, Jan. 24, at Rising Sun Baptist Church, Yorktown, Va., with the Rev. David Spratley officiating. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The Ray family is receiving services of comfort at Nicholson-Cummings Funeral Home, 4304 Victoria Blvd., Hampton, (757) 728-0122.
