Liselotte Braun Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Liselotte "Liz" Arndt Braun, 75, fulfilled her life's journey on Thursday, April 14, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. The disease that took her life never claimed her spirit or diminished her sense of humor. Liz was a longtime resident of Williamsburg, known to many for her quiet generosity and her friendly devotion. She was born in Grossgarten, East Prussia, in 1930, the daughter of Karl Walter and Martha Arndt, escaped with her family to the relative safety of Western Germany after World War II, where she eventually met and married Donald Braun and moved to the United States to raise their two beloved children in Virginia. She was known for her talent as a seamstress and spent many years managing the fabric department of local stores, sharing her craft and advising others. She was prominent in the local hospitality industry, proudly serving as president of the Colonial Chapter of the National Association of Executive Housekeepers beginning in 1979. Others were often surprised and delighted when this seemingly shy little woman would burst forth in song, dance, witty commentary or contagious laughter. She was an ardent gardener who dreamed of surrounding others in the color and comfort of Nature. She enjoyed spending cold and cloudy days reading dramatic suspense novels or baking delicious treats to share with her neighbors and her many good friends. She was a gentle and caring spirit loved by all and will be deeply missed. Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother, Hans Banscher. Survivors include her loving daughter, Penny Braun; son, Robert Braun; former husband, Donald Braun; brothers, Peter and Horst Banscher; sister-in-law, Chong Cha Banscher; special friends, Amanda Drew, Jenny DeJardin, Jane and Bobby Stenson; and countless others who will fondly cherish her memory. The family will receive friends for a memorial service at 1p.m. on Saturday, May 7th, at Hospice House of Williamsburg. In honor of her request, there will be no funeral. The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice House of Williamsburg for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Support Care of Williamsburg at Hospice House, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, Va. 23188, and (757) 253-1220.

I am sad to learn of Mrs. Braun's passing. I lived next door as a teenager (Almarode). She was a wonderful cook. I wish I still had her recipe for German Chocolate Pound Cake! She was a wonderful neighbor and I remember spending a lot of time with Penny. My sincerest sympathies go to all of her family and friends.
