Marguerite Smith Obituary
Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Beverly, Frank, Chick, Brown, Dee, and Wilbur; daughters, Carol S. Saunders and Rebecca S. Woods. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Smith; sons-in-law Robert Saunders and Fletcher Woods; granddaughter, Jennifer Toppel (Scott); grandsons, Jeffery Woods (Rosella) and Rob Saunders (Heather); as well as her great-grandchildren, Ella and Simone Toppel, Keegan and Easton Saunders, and Syd and Ana Woods. She leaves behind a large extended family, which includes many nieces and nephews as well as many close friends.
Marguerite "Granny" was the matriarch and the nucleus of the family and the ultimate hostess to family, friends, and neighbors alike. She always made everyone feel welcome in her home. Granny's home was quite the gathering place, whether it be the holidays, Sunday dinners after church, or her Eta Sigma "club meetings" with her best and closest friends. For those that knew her well, we will never forget the countless conversations we had on her front porch.
Services will be held on Sunday, November 21 at 11:30 am at the Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News, VA presided over by a long-time family friend, Rev Richard Garrett. The CDC highly recommends masks for inside gatherings. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Marguerite. My heart and prayers go out to Bonnie and the family at this very sad time. Marguerite lived a long and wonderful life and was loved by many. I will always remember her beautiful smile and warm heart.
I will be out of town and unable to attend the service; however, my heart will be there with the family.
Cherish the precious memories and may they comfort you as you navigate this very sad journey.
