Richard Lee Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Richard Edward "Dick" Lee Sr. peacefully answered the Master's call on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 in the Veterans Medical Center in Hampton. His life began Jan. 12, 1926, the son of the late Mattie G. and James R. Lee. At an early age, he was baptized and became a member of Chickahominy Baptist Church in Toano. He was educated in James City County Public Schools. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, during World War II. In 1981, he retied from the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, after 26 years of dedicated service. He was a loving and kind person and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Richard E. Lee Jr. and Lonnie T. Lee and his brothers, Oliver Lee and McKinley Lee. He leaves to cherish his blessed memories, his loving wife, Bernice G. Lee; his sons, Landre D. Lee (Beryl), Karrie D. Lee and Rodney A. Lee (Jocelin); his sisters, Mattie Lightfoot and Elnora Brown; his brothers, Clarence Lee and Archie Lee; his seven grandchildren; his six great-grandchildren; his aunts, Lillian Bage and Helen W. Dandridge; his uncle, Junious Graves; his daughter-in-law, Rose Jackson; his four sisters-in-law; his brother-in-law; his nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27 in Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Steven Keller officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Family and friends will assemble at 6254 Centerville Road by 12 p.m. on Wednesday. Mr. Lee may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight in Whiting's Funeral Home. Professional service entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, Williamsburg, Va.
