BRUCE GARRETT MOLLOY AGE: 82 MOUNTAIN LAKES Bruce Molloy, 82 years young, loving husband and father; founder of the Mountain Lakes Soup Emporium, died peacefully on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville. It was the end of a very full and active life marked by his love of family, music, and the culinary arts. Born in Morristown in 1928, he grew up in Long Valley, attended St. Thomas' Choir School and graduated from Hackettstown High School in 1944, as the class valedictorian, at age 16. He worked as a draftsman at Picatinny Arsenal for 2 years, sang with a jazz trio called the Gruesome Threesome, and attended West Point for a semester before entering Rutgers where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1950. Upon graduation he worked at Upjohn Pharmaceuticals. In his spare time he won a singing contest with RCA to record with big band leader Vaughn Monroe, but was called for army duty before he could record the album. He served his country in Korea as a 1st Lt. of the 101st airborne division, the "Screaming Eagles." Upon returning he worked for Wallerstein Laboratories as an assistant to the president and later Baxter International where he held the positions of Canadian Sales Manager and Director of Strategic Planning. In 1970 he brought his family to Mountain Lakes and worked for Merrill Lynch in the position of Senior Healthcare Analyst. Later, he and his wife Nancy opened the Essex County Soup Emporium in Montclair and the Soup Emporium at the train station in Mountain Lakes where they served their much beloved popovers. He is survived by his wife Nancy, as well as three children, Susan, Cathy and Bruce, and three grandchildren Mariana Molloy, Sarah Coombs, and Peter Coombs. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Donald, Douglas, and Robert. A memorial service in celebration of Bruce's life will be held Saturday, September 18th, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 215 Boulevard, Mountain Lakes.
