Leonard Japowicz Obituary
North Chatham, MA
Leonard S. Japowicz, of North Chatham, Massachusetts died at home while surrounded by his beloved family on September 6th, 2015. Born in Paramus, NJ in 1935 to Helen and Leon Japowicz. He attended Ridgewood High School and then went on to serve in the US Army, he graduated from Fairleigh Dickerson University. He retired from Pfizer Pharmaceuticals as Vice President of Manufacturing, after nearly 44 years of service. Leonard was an active member of his community in Morris Plains, NJ. Some of his activities included many years in the United Way, Boy Scouts, Little League, and supporter of Bailey Ellard Catholic High School. He was a long time and active parishioners of St. Virgil's Church in Morris Plains, NJ and of Holy Redeemer Church here in Chatham, MA.
He was the loving husband of Eva (Fleckenstein) Japowicz for 58 wonderful years. He leaves behind one son: Leon Japowicz of Chatham, four daughters: Mary Japowicz Sheedy of Norwell MA, Eva Gratton of Londonderry NH, Jennifer Pappalardo of Chatham MA, and Theresa Reinwald of Chatham MA. He had 8 adoring grand children: Ashley Shaffer, Kayla Gratton, Theresa Gratton, Ella Shaffer, Catherin Sheedy, Leonard Gratton, James "Gunnar" Reinwald, and Elizabeth Sheedy. He also leaves behind three adoring sisters Sabina & Ed Weglarz, Kristina & Leo Landers, and Joan & Vince Melluse.
Len enjoyed deep sea fishing, golfing, gardening and boating with his three son-in-laws, Peter Gratton, Paul Sheedy and John Pappalardo.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Nickerson Funeral Home in Chatham on Thursday, September 10th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 11th, 2015 at Holy Redeemer Church, located on Highland Ave, Chatham, MA 02633 at 11:00 AM. I am so very sorry for your loss . I was visiting my parents Friday and they told me that your father had passed . I remember Mr Japowicz has someone you couldn't help but notice when he entered the room . A special thought for your mom at this time . Eva...I was sorry to hear of your loss.I have not been in touch with Len since I retired 25 years ago.However, Len and I always had a special bond that exceeded most co-worker relationships.He was a man that inspired many with his good qualities and integrity. May he rest in peace in the arms of the Lord.

Worked for Pfizer many years while Len was VP. He was good to me, always believed in me and brought me back in a time of personal crisis. He was a gentleman and is remembered fondly.

My dear Jen, and "Jen's Mom..." how I remember those many years ago when we both worked at Fancy's in Chatham, and your parents would come in. Your Dad was so handsome, and always so caring to your Mom, and your Mom ended up with the moniker, "Jen's Mom". I am so sorry for your loss, for you and your entire family.
