Ned Gray

1951 - 2023

GRAY, Ned Friends and family of Ned Gray will gather September 16 to celebrate his life. Ned passed from this life on August 9, 2023. Ned was born in Dallas on March 24, 1951. He was the son of Elizabeth Ann Gray and Gilman Gray Sr. Ned spent his early years in Dallas attending DeGoyler Elementary School and Marsh Middle School. The Grays moved to Odessa, TX where Ned attended high school, graduating in May, 1969 from Permian High School. He went on to earn a B.S. from The University of Texas at Dallas and a M.A. from The Dallas Theological Seminary. After graduation Ned enjoyed many years working with high school students in The Dallas Independent School District. He was loved and admired by the faculty, staff, and students at W.W. Samuell High School, Bryan Adams High School, and Emmett Conrad High School. Ned was known as a caring teacher and colleague. His "reward trips" to Six Flags and Celebration Station are legendary. They were but a few examples of the dedication Ned brought to his work. Throughout his life Ned gathered others together. His greatest legacy is the friendships he left behind. Wherever he went, he brought genuine interest in others. In supermarkets, doctors' offices, and restaurants Ned found individuals who became his friends. He leaves behind two special groups who will miss him for the rest of their lives. Liza Ravelo, Dave Reazin, and Mark Harrington formed with Ned "The Four Musketeers." Ned loved them deeply and this love was returned one hundred percent. Whenever one was in need, the other three were there with help and encouragement. The road they travel will not be the same without Ned's companionship. His passing has left a hole that will never be filled. The Saturday Night Card Group was very special to Ned. Membership was permanent, though attendance fluctuated. Members met most Saturdays for dinner and a game of Cutthroat Spades. Ned took the game very seriously and did not enjoy losing. Saturday nights won't be the same without Ned as the ringleader. Ned inherited his love of sports, zest for life, dedication to friends and family, and deep Christian faith from his parents Elizabeth (Liz) and Gilman, Sr. Both Liz and Gil were vital, magnetic individuals who, like Ned drew others to them. Once you were a friend of the Grays, you were a friend for life. Liz and Gilman, Sr. both predeceased Ned. Ned is deeply missed and mourned by his family. These include the late Brook Gray, his wife Patti, and their sons Brook and Hayden, Timothy Gray, his wife Vicki, and their daughters Emily and Elizabeth, Daniel Gray and his wife Stephanie, and the late Gilman Gray, Jr. Ned was incredibly fond of his entire family and loved each of them with the love only Ned could give. The celebration of Ned's life will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 at the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Ln., Dallas. A reception will follow immediately at Luby's 13455 Midway Rd., Dallas. All are invited to attend. It can truly be said of Ned Gray that he fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. Rest in peace Ned.
