Maaaaan, I used to be sooooo scared of you! It took years for me to speak around you. Then it became our "game" for you to scare others while I told them you were all fluff. I'll miss you. Thank you for allowing me to be an honorary Lasley. Thank you for your daughters-my sisters, my grands-my niece & nephews.

To my other family- while I am not physically able to be there tomorrow, please know I am praying with you and will see you soon. Love you all.

I'll miss you Old Man.

TO THE MEMORY OF JAMES WILLIAM LASLEY, JR.

God has his plans, and what if we
With our sight be too blind to see
Their full fruition; cannot he,
Who made it, solve the mystery?
One whom we loved has fall'n asleep,
Not died; although his calm be deep,
Some new, unknown, and strange surprise
In Heaven holds enrapt his eyes.

And can you blame him that his gaze
Is turned away from earthly ways,
When to his eyes God's light and love
Have giv'n the view of things above?
A gentle spirit sweetly good,
The pearl of precious manlyhood,
Who heard the voice of duty clear,
And found his mission soon and near.

He loved all nature, flowers fair,
The warmth of sun, the kiss of air,
The birds that filled the sky with song,
The stream that laughed its way along,
His home to him was shrine and throne,
But one love held him not alone;
He sought out poverty and grief,
Who touched his robe and found relief.

So sped he in his Master's work,
Too busy and too brave to shirk,
When through the silence, dusk and dim,
God called him and he fled to him.
We wonder at the early call,
And tears of sorrow can but fall
For him o'er whom we spread the pall;
But faith, sweet faith, is over all.

The house is dust, the voice is dumb,
But through undying years to come,
The spark that glowed within his soul
Shall light our footsteps to the goal.
He went his way; but oh, he trod
The path that led him straight to God.
Such lives as this put death to scorn;
They lose our day to find God's morn.

Paul Laurence Dunbar

For each hour of your loneliness, I wish you a day of comfort; for each minute of grief, a year of peace; and for every tear, a thousand reasons to smile. Also, may God, as you understand God, wrap his loving arms around you and ease the pain of your loss. James will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
