John GUTMAN Obituary
News Death Notice
GUTMAN, John H. 78 of Dayton, passed away peacefully Friday April 24, 2015 at home with his family at his side. John is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Rose E. (nee Woollard) Gutman, one son and daughter-in-law William M. and Susan Gutman, four daughters and two sons-in-law Dorothy M. Gutman, Ann M. Gutman, Barbara J. and David Johnson, Donna K. and Larry Gard. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda (Brad) Mecah, Brenda Gutman, John Gutman, Afton Johnson and her fiancé Nick Direnzi, Luke Johnson, Jacob, Adam and Andrew Gard, Collin Piser. Two brothers and two sisters-in-law Lawrence Gutman, Deacon Ralph and Mary Gutman, Wanda Woollard, several nieces, nephews and many friends and colleagues. John was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Mary Alice (nee Wehner) Gutman, one sister Carolyn Leis. He was a 1955 graduate of Patterson Co-Op, 1961 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, received his graduate degree's from the University of Dayton and Ohio State University. John was retired from WPAFB, where he was an Electrical Engineer in the Compressor Research Facility. He was an auto racing fan, was a member of the NRA and enjoyed target shooting. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1000 West Wenger Road, Englewood, Friday, May 1, 2015 starting at 9:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am with Fr. James Seibert C.PP.S. celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Contributions in memory of John may be made to Hospice of Dayton. Arrangements entrusted to the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME ENGLEWOOD CHAPEL, 675 West Wenger Road. My sympathy to Rose and the Gutman family. It was my pleasure to work with John for over 30 years on a great many projects large and small. He was the most talented engineer I have ever met. He had a gift for solving engineering problems I have rarely seen. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

John Gutman was an absolute role model. I was incredibly fortunate to work with him at the CRF. This was a phenomenal engineer, a wonderful friend, an amazing human being. He taught everyone how to act with his every move, even in the way that he handled his cancer. There are very few people I admire enough to consider role models and people I should try to emulate. John is certainly at the top of that list. He set a standard I fear I can never equal. My sympathies to his family & friends - this was a GREAT man!

My sympathies to the Gutman Family. I worked with him on projects and looked up to him as a mentor and a personal friend. His dedication to his work was inspiring to all who worked with him. He will most surely be missed.

John leaves us with a great legacy at the "Lab". He was our top expert on our electrical power systems. Though he will be missed dearly, he has shown us engineers the standards of excellence we now strive for every day. We salute you!
