I was so sorry to hear of John's passing. I didn't know him well but would run into him sometimes on the way into work since we both avoided the parking garage and often walked in from remote lots. He was always cheerful and in good spirits. I will miss his enthusiasm for science and the instruments that allow us to do experiments. He did a wonderful job running the Center for Bioinformatics and Genomics. He is greatly missed by Miami faculty and students.

Dear Donna and Hawes family members,
I am very sorry for your loss. I new John from his days in Bob Harris's lab. Actually he taught me how to pour an SDS page gel.He was always very helpful and fun to work with.We will miss him.

Donna,

I knew John through the ABRF and served on a committee with him. I found his obvious enthusiasm for science infectious and I enjoyed working with him and talking with him at conferences. He was invariably pleasant and thoughtful and he will be greatly missed.

My deepest sympathies are with you.
