News Death Notice
RUSSELL, John Thomas DDS Age 79, of Kettering, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at The Hospice of Dayton. Tom was a practicing dentist for 55 years and enjoyed his practice in Yellow Springs for 40 years; he was a Major in the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War and a member of Temple Israel. He was deeply loved by his family, friends and patients. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Col. Charles & Joyce Russell and brother, Samuel Russell. He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, B'Sheva Rassin Russell; daughters, Lisa Russell, Laura Russell, Linda Bankston; three granddaughters; B'Sheva's sons, Jolyon Simon Torrance, Gideon Richman Torrance; his sister, Ann Potter; sister-in-law, Judith Russell & her family; close friends, The Stanley Stein Family of Columbus; many other relatives and friends. Private funeral services were held at Riverview Cemetery with Rabbi Karen Bodney-Halasz officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the cancer organization of your choice in Tom's memory. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Marker & Heller Funeral Homes, North Main Street Chapel.

So sorry to hear this.He's been in Yellow Springs as a dentist for all my life. He certainly has the most beautiful dental clinic I've ever been to! He served our sons and us well. Our sympathies to his daughters and family.

As a patient, I was not easy one by any means. He was incredibly empathetic in this regard. He was a man of legendary proportions in his profession, and shall I say, abnormally skilled in his craft and ability to administer advice and for preventative care alongside his surgical skills.
My condolences. Maybe to summarize, I could simply say that he was kind - and had a great sense of humor. Yeah. That works too.
