John Shellabarger Obituary

News Death Notice

SHELLABARGER, John J. age 99 of Brookville, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010 at his home. John was born August 13, 1910 in Beavercreek Twp. to the late Reva (Wagner) Shellabarger and Wheeler Shellabarger. A graduate of Trotwood-Madison High School (1928) and Miami Jacobs College, he worked for over 30 years in the credit departments of Gibbons Supply and Dayton Plumbing Supply. Always active in the church, community and Boy Scouting, John continued those pursuits during his 33 years of retirement. As a devout Christian role model, he held many leadership positions in the Trotwood Church of the Brethren, including the Treasurer for 11 years. John initiated a paper-recycling program in Trotwood, which he led for 20 years. He was an active Boy Scout, Institutional Representative and Scout Master for Troop #41 for over 50 years. In recent years he received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts and in 2007, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the City of Trotwood. John was also an avid gardener, passing that interest onto his grandchildren. John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Dora Mae (Kinsel) Shellabarger; his children Jane Nocito and husband Mark of Cincinnati, Joseph Shellabarger and wife Kathy of Cary, NC, grandchildren Anthony Nocito (Casie) of Turtlecreek Twp., Greg Nocito (Laura) of Cincinnati, Joey and Johnny Shellabarger of Cary, NC and two great grandchildren, Lilly and Eva; a dear brother Louis Shellabarger and many more dear friends and relatives. A celebration of Johns life will be held 11:00 AM, Monday at the Trotwood Church of the Brethren, 208 East Main St., with Pastors Glenn Timmons and Paula Bowser presiding. Burial will follow at the Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or to his church in memory of John. Arrangements entrusted to the ROGERS FUNERAL HOME. Joe,
I'm sorry to hear of your father's passing. He gave me a good piece of career advice many years ago, which I've always remembered.
