Family-Placed Obituary

YOUNG, Marvin E. "Barney" 90, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006. Born November 19, 1915 in Lebanon to George and Florence (nee: Rainey) Young, he was a graduate of Franklin High School, Miami University and Chase College of Law He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a First Lieutenant. He served as Mayor of the City of Lebanon, was Warren Co. Prosecuting Attorney from 1948-1956, and was elected to the Board of Directors for The Lebanon Citizens National Bank from 1957 until the time of his death and was also the Lebanon City Attorney from 1960-1975. He organized and served as President of Greater Lebanon Inc from 1969 until 1987. This corporation helped develop downtown Lebanon and Harmon Industrial Park. He helped organize and construct the former Lebanon swimming pool and the Countryside YMCA, serving as Secretary and on the Board of Directors at the YMCA, of which he held the number 1 membership. He was admitted to the bar and began practicing law in 1940 beginning in general practice and specializing in Real Estate and Probate Law in the latter part of his career. He was a partner in many firms throughout his career including Young & Young, Young & Jones and after partner Fred Hubbell's death in Young & Hubbell he practiced solo nearly until the time of his death. He also was instrumental in helping to form the Lebanon Community chorus, Project Excellence, the Greater Lebanon Fund, and helped form and sat on the Board of the Warren County Foundation. He also was an early president of the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce. The Greater Lebanon Inc. opened the Ice Cream Parlor, Harmon Industrial Park, other improvement projects in the downtown area including the Lebanon Parking company which created off street parking spaces in Lebanon to help preserve the downtown area. He has been a 50 yr plus member of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge #26 F&AM as well as a long standing member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton as well as a member of the Lebanon Elks #422. Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elaine (nee: Carson) Young, his son, Douglas Alan Young, 6 brothers, Ralph Wesley Young. Warren C. Young, Sr., Eugene Young, Elvis Young, Howard Young and Robert Young, 1 sister, Helen Young and 1 grandson, Harrod Basham, Jr., survivors include his daughter, Melissa Basham of Fernandina Beach, FL, 2 grandchildren Skip Young and Rachael Rentschler, 5 great grandchildren, Joshua Young, Cassandra Young, Ashlee Young, Brock Andrew Rentschler and Desiree Leigh Basham. Visitation, Monday, April 17, 2006 from 10 AM-1 PM with funeral service following all at the Lebanon United Methodist Church, Reverend Gary Hughes officiating and interment follows in Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial donations requested to the Warren County Foundation. Arrangements by the Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, Lebanon.
