Melisa Mathews

1967 - 2022

Melisa L. Mathews, 55, of Decatur, IN, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Lutheran Hospital. She was born in Decatur, IN, on March 6, 1967, the daughter of Robert H. and Kathryn M. (LaTurner) Mathews.

She attended Decatur Church of God. She was self-employed and cleaned houses and also was an interior house painter for many years.

Melisa was a free spirit and enjoyed tie-dyeing, singing karaoke, thrift store shopping, and playing dice. She had a special place in her heart for her cat, Open. She also loved socializing with her friends and was always giving to others.

She is survived by her parents, Bob and Katie Mathews of Lawrenceburg, IN; biological father, Edward Grover of Decatur, IN; 3 children, Nichole "Nikki" Mathews of Decatur, IN, Nathan (Ashley Anderson) Mathews of Chambersburg, PA, Elise Baker (companion, Ashley Speaks) of Convoy, OH; a sister, Jackie (Joe) Roman of Decatur, IN; 2 brothers, Jon (Lisa) Mathews and David (Linda) Mathews both of Decatur, IN; 5 grandchildren, Ashton Passwater, Zoe Everett, Raiden Mathews, Sebastian Mathews, and Easton Mathews; numerous nieces and nephews.

Melisa was preceded in death by her son, Trent Figley on May 3, 2006, and her daughter, Natasha Mathews on April 25, 2017.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in the Decatur Cemetery.
