Alexandra Kerr Obituary

Alexandra Marie Kerr Alexandra M. Kerr, age 10, daughter of Robert A. and Jo-Ann Eckrich Kerr of Fairfax, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children. Alex was in the 5th grade at St. Mary Magdalen School where she was on the Honor Roll. She participated in the Science Olympiad, was a member of the school's Cheerleading Squad, was a Girl Scout in Troop #726, and also sang in the Children's Choir at her church. Despite a 41/2-year battle with cancer, she displayed remarkable courage and led an extremely active life. She was an avid reader and she enjoyed her days at the beach, swimming, sleepover parties, and arts and crafts. Alex was involved with the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of DE, the Blood Bank of DE, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the American Cancer Society. In 1998, Alex represented the Make-A-Wish Foundation when Governor Carper proclaimed Make-A-Wish Day, and she spoke at their annual golf tournament. In 1999, Alex spoke at the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days Program and Relay For Life event. Alex is survived by her parents, Robert A. and Jo-Ann M. Kerr of Fairfax; her paternal grandparents, Robert J. and Marjorie Kerr of Media, PA; and her maternal grandparents, Joseph and Ann Eckrich of Rehoboth Beach, De. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles, David and Marcy Kerr of Cherry Hill, NJ, Michael and Christine Eckrich, Greg and Danielle Eckrich of Hockessin, Jean Eckrich of Hopkinton, NH, Joseph Eckrich of Wilmington, Daniel Eckrich of New York City and Steffany Eckrich of Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday morning at 10 am at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Concord Pike & Sharpley Rd., Wilmington. Friends may call at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington on Thursday evening from 7-9 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to any of the charities listed above.
