Frieda Blatt Richter, 97, died on January 9, 2010. She was born in Augsburg, Germany and married Dr. Kurt Blatt in 1934. Together they fled Nazi Germany and built a new life in Haverstraw, NY. Frieda assisted her husband in managing a busy medical practice that spanned all of Rockland County, New York. Widowed in 1960, she married Max Richter in 1972. Following his death in 1973 in Israel, just days before the Yom Kippur War, Frieda relocated to Florida. She lived there for the past 35 years where she pursued education in the arts, traveled extensively, and was surrounded by countless, loving friends who mourn her loss.
Frieda will be missed profoundly by her 3 children and their spouses: Daniel (Marti Blumenthal), Ruth Merkatz (Irwin) and Philip (Paula Breen). She will also be missed by 6 grandchildren and five great -grand children. She is mourned in Buenos Aires and Puerto Rico by descendants of her 3 brothers who fled Germany with Frieda's parents and settled in Argentina.
Frieda lived the American dream. Immigrating to New York as a young bride without speaking English, separated from her family and knowing no one, she built a lasting legacy that will endure for generations.
Services will be held on Jan 11, 2010, at 12 noon at Riverside Chapel, 21 Broad Street West, Mt. Vernon, NY.
