George Dabney Obituary

George D.

Dabney, Jr.

Mr. George D. Dabney, Jr., age 81 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on February 25, 2013.

George was born in Spring Lake, NJ on January 23, 1932, son of the late Edna (Smith) and George D. Dabney, Sr. Upon graduating from Neptune High School, he proudly served as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He then continued his education with a B.S. Degree in Accounting from Monmouth College, and later attained a Master's Degree in Taxation from Widener University. George had a lengthy career as a Certified Public Accountant, having spent his career in the audit group of Touche Ross. He also served as the Director of Internal Audit for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware. George possessed a pilot's license and flew small aircrafts for leisure, and was also an avid boater, spending many weekends boating with his wife, Joyce. Above all things, he found joy in time spent with his children and grandchildren.

George was predeceased by his wife, Joyce A. Dabney; daughters, Catherine Gallagher and Kimberly a Dabney; and sister, Jo'Ann Dabney Abbott. He is survived by his children, George D. Dabney III and his wife Margaret, Mary Lou Stransky and her husband Michael, Maureen Nybakken and her husband Scott, Joann Acker, Sheila Dogan and her husband Dan, and Michael Gallagher and his wife Becky; 14 grandchildren; sister, Eileen Dabney Vellinga; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont Sts. in Wilmington, on Monday morning, March 4 at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday morning, prior to mass, from 9:30-10:45 am.
