Gladys E. (Wamsley) Unger, age 93, of Newark, DE, wife of the late, Gilbert E. Unger, went to be with her Lord, on January 18 at 2:30 a.m. Mrs. Unger was a loving homemaker who cared for the needs of her family as well as for her church family. She was a 75 year member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church belonged to the Naomi Circle, volunteered in the kitchen at Hope Dining Room, and had a great passion for her church choir. Gladys was also an avid gardener, a lifelong member of the 4-H Links, and a horse lover. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to being a patient advocate for her sister, Ida Mary, who resided at Governor Bacon Health Center She was recognized by the institution for her dedication and competency.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Shirley Anne Dempsey; son, Douglas W. Unger and wife, Mary Alice; 5 grandchildren: Chris Dempsey (Ginger), Leslie Scrivner (Brent), Erin Bowen (Adam), Seth Unger, and Matthew Unger; and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Howard Wamsley and Celestia (Wilson) Wamsley; and sister, Ida Mary Walmsley.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Rd., Newark from 9:30 to 11:30 am followed by a service in celebration of Gladys's life at 11:30 am. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gladys's memory can be sent to the Music Ministry of Ebenezer U.M. Church.
