John J. Lacek, age 89, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2008.
Mr. Lacek was born in Wilkes Barre, PA, the son of John J. and Mary Lacek. A loving and dedicated father and husband, he was a member of various educational associations at the state and national level. He was a member of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States of America and a former member of the Lions Clubs International. Mr. Lacek retired in 1983 as an administrator in various school districts in New Castle County, the last of only three Chief School officers in the former Henry C. Conrad High School District. He served as Communications Officer in the China Burma India Theater during WWII. He retired after 33 years of Active and Reserve service with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He is survived by his children; Katherine M. Lacek, John J. Lacek, III, Monica (Lacek) Tadler, Jerome J. Lacek, and Kenneth J. Lacek; and his 9 grandchildren; Jon-Michael, Jacquelyn, Chrystine, Christopher, John Stephen, Gayle, Paige, Kenny and Catherine. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Catherine A. Lacek.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, July 22 at 11:30 am at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington, where friends may call after 9 am. Burial will be in all Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, 1501 Casho Mill Rd., Suite 1, Newark, DE 19711 or to your favorite charity.
