Milton Isaacs Obituary
Age 91, passed away on December 13, 2020.
He was born in Wilmington, DE on December 31, 1928 to Rose Eisenberg Isaacs and Louis Isaacs. He graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in 1945, and the University of Delaware in 1949, marrying Alice Keyser, also of Wilmington, on September 21, 1950. He graduated from Temple University Dental School in 1955, following which he entered the Army and was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, serving in the Third Armored Division until September of 1957. Dr. Isaacs and his family returned to Wilmington, where he opened his dental practice on November 25, 1957 at 2130 Lancaster Avenue, moving 11 years later to 707 Foulk Road in North Wilmington.
His practice flourished, and he mentored many young dentists, including Michael Fay, James Forshey, and his own son, David Isaacs, DMD. He helped bring fluoridation of water to Delaware. Dr. Isaacs was a member of the Delaware State Dental Society (DSDS). He was active in the Society as well as in the Fourth District of the American Dental Association which includes DE, NJ, MD, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and all branches of the Armed Services. He was elected to be an alternate delegate to the ADA where he was instrumental in the election of the first president from Delaware of the ADA in more than 130 years. Dr. Isaacs became an officer of the DSDS and was president of the Society in 1976-77. He established the dental PAC in 1976. Along with Dr. Alan Stewart, Dr. Isaacs was inducted into the International College of Dentists in 1985. In 2008, he was honored by the DSDS for his many contributions. He practiced dentistry until 2009. After living for many years in Holiday Hills and later, in Arden for 34 years, he and Alice moved to Maris Grove Retirement Community, Glen Mills, PA in July of 2009.
The Isaacs family became very involved with the American Field Service, hosting three international exchange students with whom they continue to remain in contact: Franco Maggiolo, Italy; Vilma Cavieres, Chile; and Piyalug Leesin, Thailand. Alice and Milton became parent advisors for the AFS at Mt. Pleasant High School. Dancing was a major part of their lives. They owned the Crystal Dance Club in Wilmington for over 5 years, as well as danced in Pro-Am competitions across the U.S. for many years.
Milton Isaacs is survived by his wife of 70 years, Alice; two siblings, Helen Zerin (Milton) and Renee Glickman (Nathan, deceased). His brother Alfred Isaacs and sister-in-law, Eleanor, predeceased him. He is survived by four children: Susan Isaacs (James Plummer); David Isaacs (Mary Jane); Leslie Noji (Ronald Leounes, deceased); and Kyle Isaacs (Joseph Piekutoski); 7 grandchildren (Benjamin (Amy) and Daniel Noji; Rose Irvin (Kenon), Joshua Isaacs, Kyra Isaacs; Sadie Julin; and Maddie Gage (Nate), and 3 great-grandchildren (Layne Noji; Sarina Irvin; and Jozie Gage). Extended family includes step grandchildren Kirsten Leounes and Chris Leounes (Alison), and step great grandchildren Electra and Logan Leounes. His nephews Lawrence (Susan)and Michael Isaacs, with whom he was very close, also survive him. The family wishes to thank the staff of Rose Court, Maris Grove and Willow Tree Hospice. Services are private. Shiva will be observed 5:00 pm, Saturday via Zoom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jewish Federation of Delaware or the Food Banks of Delaware (State) or Chester County, PA.
