"Big Bob"
Mr. Robert P. Denney ("Big Bob"), age 67, of Millsboro, DE, formerly of New Castle, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 12, 2010, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 2, 1943 in Wilmington, Bob was the son of the late Angelina and Clifford Denney. His early years were spent on Wilmington's East Side. Shortly after he started school, his family moved to New Castle, where he finished his education and raised his family. Bob was a cement mason by trade. He worked for various concrete construction companies in the tri-state area over the years. He worked on heavy highway, commercial, and residential projects. He was particularly proud to have been a part of the "state of the art" construction of the new St. Georges Bridge (Roth Bridge) from start to finish from 1991 to 1994. In 2003, he moved to Millsboro and started his own concrete construction company with his sons. Bob was a hardworking, dedicated man; his work ethic could not be matched. He loved working for himself and was very proud of all the work he did in the Millsboro area. Bob loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved taking them to Delaware Park and to the New Castle Farmers Market. "Big Bob" was truly an unforgettable character. He was a great storyteller and jokester. He lived in the moment, and lived every day to the fullest. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 30 years, Linda (Witt) Denney; his children, Angelina Denney, Susan McGinnis (Mike), Robert F. Denney (Tara), and Michael A. Denney; grandchildren, Shaina Spears, Robert M. Denney, and Michael Daugherty, Jr.; sisters, Barbara Myers (Ervin), Linda Jenkins (Eddie), and Dianna Denney; brother-in-law, David Witt (Barbara); mother-in-law, Ann M. Witt; nieces, Kelley Myers and Stacey Witt; and nephews, Bobby Jenkins, David Witt, and Justin Witt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Francis Denney.
There will be two services for Bob. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Thursday, February 18, at Mary, Mother of Peace RC Church, 30839 Mount Joy Road (John J. Williams Highway), Millsboro, where visitation will be held from 9:45-10:45 am. A second funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 19, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will follow in Glebe Cemetery, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Tunnell Cancer Center, 18947 John J. Williams Highway, Unit 213, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
