Charles "Smitty" Smith, age 76, born and raised in Delaware, Ohio, departed this life on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Kobacker House Inpatient Hospice Care Facility in Columbus.
Born on December 15, 1944, he is survived by brother Lewis Smith, sister Francis Wright, 5 children: Sherrie Smith, Hope Smith, Jackie Smith, Charles Mathew Smith, and Jason Smith, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

He retired from Hagglunds Denison Corporation Delaware, Ohio in 1990 and from Sigma Chi Fraternity at Ohio Wesleyan University Delaware, Ohio in 2004.
Smitty was loved for his kind generous heart and his love for the Cleveland Browns. He always would say "I hope the Brownies make it to the playoff before I die." The Browns made it to the playoff on January 3, 2021, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-22. Thank you, Cleveland Browns, for making his dream come true.

So sorry to hear of Smitty’s passing. Got to know Smitty at UDF when was there drinking coffee in his Browns gear. Talked to him everyday. When I retired, began working at UDF and he was the highlight of the day. Always wanted to talk about the Browns and Buckeyes. He was always a little more pumped when he talked about kids coming to do dinner on Sunday and watch the Browns. Would buy some beer because people coming for game would drink all his beer. Smiled every time. I would give him ride home on nasty days. Said could walk home, but I wasn’t having it. Used to help him with mail picked up at post office. Was a pleasure. Great man, going to miss him. RIP Smitty!
