Samuel Pope Obituary
Salisbury-Samuel B. Pope, Sr., 91, passed on to his eternal place of rest on May 12, 2015. He was the son of Joseph E. and Mary E. Pope.
Sam received his formal education in Somerset County schools but learned most of his life lessons living on a farm and working hard. As soon as the war broke out, he joined the Navy. He served on the USS Bennington as an aerial gunner on a torpedo plane and an aircraft mechanic. His two brothers, Joe and Orville, also served our country during WWII. They were true patriots.
After the war, he returned home and met the "love of his life," Sherry. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage. From this union was born their pride and joys - Ben, Barbie and Holly.
Sam was an accomplished masonry contractor for most of his working career. Sam later taught masonry in the Wicomico County school system to the next generation of brick masons; retiring in 1989.
Sam enjoyed golf, country music, camping, animals and the Orioles. But his true love was his family. He was the best father and best husband. He will be truly missed…he was our hero.
His memories will be cherished by his devoted and loving wife, Sherry, his 3 children, 7 grandchildren - Erica, David, Billy, Liisa, Joe, Michael, and Wade, and 7 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Sam's life will be held on May 19th @ 1:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends between 12-1.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 112 High Street, Salisbury, MD 21801 or the Wounded Warrior Project. www.woundedwarriorproject.org

Sherry, I'm so glad you got your last wink from Sam!! What a precious memory for you and so indicative of Sam and the twinkle he had in his eyes!! What a wonderful man he was and I know you and your family have so many great memories!! He is now an Angel looking over you all!! Hugs to you and your whole family!
