Adam Wendling Obituary

After a courageous three year battle with brain cancer, Adam peacefully passed away at the age 34. Born in Geneva, IL, Adam grew up in Naples, FL and later moved to Golden, CO with his family. Adam will be remembered always for his immense and contagious enthusiasm to live life to the fullest. His untamable adventurous spirit, took him to some of the world's highest peaks, deepest oceans, and scenic flights over land and sea. Adam was a high altitude expedition leader, member of the Alpine Rescue team, expert rock/ice climber, skier, motocross rider, mechanic, instructor level scuba diver, avid kayaker, private pilot and, within the last year, he took up paragliding. Adam studied business in Key West as a scuba instructor, and later owned a successful automotive detailing business, Automotive Reconditioning, in Colorado. Above all, he was a committed and true friend, and never hesitated to express his deep love of music, laughter, and family. Adam is now in the loving arms of his Grandma Carol Taylor and his Uncle William "Billy" Wendling. He continues to be embraced in love by his Mother, Nancy Taylor, and his brother, Dustin Taylor Wendling. Also, Adam's girlfriend Megan McLean and "Team Taylor": Grandpa Bob, Uncle Richard (Robyn), Aunt Ann Taylor-Bush (Art) and cousins Brittany, Kyle, Christopher, Joel and Alex. After a public celebration of Adam's life in Denver this fall (for details please visit www.celebrateadam.blogspot.com), per his request, his family will release his ashes in the warm waters off the coast of Key West. Memorial gifts can be made to NRI (www.thecni.org).

In the lyrics 'A Pirate Looks at Forty,' the only thing that I see that relates to the Adam is that he played in Mother - Mother Ocean and so much more! I just witnessed in his video and pictures that were shared a man of shear will, strength and determination to squeeze every bit out of life that he could. It's clear to me that he lived life with purpose, reckless abandon and a Faith I haven't found in myself yet at the age of 59. I didn't know Adam, but from what I have witnessed in the video and saw in the pictures, he stepped off that ledge of the unknown with unabashed faith and determination to fly every time! He showed me to have FAITH, for even in a missed step, if you don't at least try you'll never know what it feels like to soar. I saw that Adam lived life as though everyday was his last. When he did take his last breath on this earth, I know without a doubt that he mounted on the Wings of Eagles and is still going strong! Soar Adam Soar! I'll catch a glimpse of you every time I see wings in the sky!

To my mountain man… oh how our lives were forever changed 7 years ago. A meeting of what we would later discover was a plan for our two souls. Your arrival at my doorstep was our turning point in our relationship when everything magically connected and our journeys finally made sense. Your sincere eyes, kind heart, adventurous soul, charming humor, attentiveness, swift dance moves across Shellback's dance floor and that sexy smile swept me away taking us on a magical journey. A journey that leaves me feeling so full of your love and inspired because of how truly amazing you are and how fully you lived and loved life. Life really does surprise you with unexpected treasures, even at the most unexpected times, being loved unconditionally by you Adam has made my life radiant. Of the promises we made to one another, I will journey through each and everyday with your love, your spirit, and your pure enthusiasm for life guiding me. Your endless gratitude towards everyone you meet, your way of taking in all of the beauty of the world around you, the way you enjoy the simplicity of things, the way you live life like it doesn't matter who is watching, you just are you, the passion you exert when you share a story, the way you embrace all of your friends, family and mine too, the way you light up at my presence and show me there is nothing better than "us", your long lasting hugs and everlasting kisses, and those beautiful eyes always with a lot to say and always speaking right to my heart are just a few of your amazing qualities. Just a few of the things I will cherish… watching the sun find its way to the other side of the world with you, all our sunset sharing with David and Jorge, dancing the evenings away and then you dancing with my dad, savoring my mom's homemade cookies till the last crumb, witnessing a mega pod of humpback whales breach the ocean waters, bonfires on the beach in Carmel, climbing mountains we didn't know existed, singing songs with sweet lyrics you made (my songs to you ever clever… do not hold a candle to your beautiful voice), exploring Catalina with Dustin and Mette, finding our way to our favorite The Bull Pen, sharing tasty Hope beer for inspiration, Thanksgiving… what a feast with Andrea, dinners with Chip, Ang and baby Lucy, exploring Manhattan Beach with Erika and Adam, your visits with my students, drinking tasty beers with Mallory and Tim, cuddling up with your boy Mo by our simple Christmas tree, Big Bear karaoke, winter fireworks off the pier, drinking Renegades at Meg and Trav's, being Juliet's favorite pirate, indulging in Valentine's Day burgers with Uncle Richard and Aunt Robyn on a mission for more Girl Scout cookies, New Years champagne with Grandpa, gaming with Aunt Ann, Uncle Art and Chris (well let's be honest… we pretty much Farkled with everyone… and Dustin always wins), drinking tasty beers at the "nooner", laughing till we are crying by taking the wrong exists with Kyle because you know what's awesome "us", holiday Buchi lunch with Brittany, Brent's visit in Denver, having Chris take us to Colorado Springs, Buchi's finest chef serving up amazing meals at Casa De Taylor, sharing your many unbelievable adventures of the Colorado mountains and Moab with my dad and me as we crossed the beautiful states, sharing our secret faves of LA with your mom and my parents, all the stock we invested at In n Out and the Manhattan Beach Creamery, sharing a magical beach evening with you mom and my dad, and then to top things off your final sunset here with your mom, my dad and your best friend by our sides. I am beyond grateful to have been on this journey with you, to have held you, comforted you, laughed with you, cried with you, embraced life with you, to love you and then to have laid beside you and kissed you as you sailed off into the ocean. You are everywhere you promised I would find you. And a true testament to how amazing you are, you left me in the hands and hearts of your beautiful family and loving friends who have embraced me, lifted me up, laughed with me, cried with me, walked with me, visited me, ate In n Out with me (even when they are gluten free), driven down the Great Ocean Road in search of blue tonged lizards with me, drank Pacifico with our toes in the sand with me, gotten pedicures with me… Kyle :), fist pumped to Swollen Members and danced to Outkast with me. You have left an everlasting mark on so many lives and so many hearts. What a remarkable man you are Adam, an inspiration, a hero. I am so proud to call you mine. I carry you in my heart as the best part of me. Till we meet again where you promised you will be waiting so we can continue our amazing adventure… in your loving words "I love you more than you'll ever know... Favorite, favorite... Forever, forever". I Love you my sweet Adam. Soup you always! And in true fashion, since in life you must always respond in song, you will always be my Denver boy and I will forever be your ocean girl.

Hard to look back at our lives together, and imagine a future adventure without you right there by my side. Our lives were forever changed by your presence, and now forever changed by your absence.
Growing up together we formed a Triumvirate (you, me and mom) we all had an equal voice, and whatever we had, we shared as equals.
Today, our three part harmony, is now just a duet. But just as I have never had the ability to sing all three parts of a song out loud, I can still hear the perfect pitch harmony in my head, and every time I open my mouth to speak, you will be there, woven into the fabric of my character.
You have been a part of me, since I opened my eyes, and you are still a part of me when I close my eyes at night.
We 'survivors' will carry on your legacy of crushing every last opportunity out of life, leveraging every second and challenging ourselves and each other to go beyond what think we are capable of, only to discover that we are vastly more capable than what we can even imagine we could be.
You showed me. I will show others.
You rest, we'll take it from here.

With a deep compassion and much respect for this courageous young man, I affirm that indeed he is in the arms of pure love and light. I salute this beautiful family and honor them for all they have done and continue to do. As Ernest Holmes said ...child of all good you are born of eternal day and never shall the sun set on your consciousness! Adam you have gone before us but we shall meet again and in joy you will embrace your family and all those who love you.
Love and Blessings,
Maureen Underwood
