Emily Roebken Obituary

Emily Anne Roebken, age 32, one of God's unparalleled creations, died on All Saints' Day, November 1, at her home in Denver. She was a devoted mother, a loving wife, a caring sister, and a daughter way too accomplished for the gene pool she came from. She was truly an original, a beautiful young woman who profoundly affected all who knew her. Emily Manion was born to Karen and Mike Manion on July 30th, 1985 in Wheat Ridge, CO. Erin, age three, was thrilled to have a baby sister. Emily graduated from D'Evelyn HS, attended the University of Denver, and received both her undergrad vocal performance degree and Master's Degree in Education from Regis University. More recently she has been a music teacher at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in Denver. She was a singer with a preternatural gift. Her love of God seemed to come alive whenever she sang at church. For years, she cantored Masses, mainly at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Golden. Parishioners from other churches would come to hear her, to get their "Emily fix". When asked why she didn't take her vocal gifts to Hollywood or New York, her response was, "No way. I want a normal life". She was also a consummate educator. She taught in Highlands Ranch, north Arvada, and Denver. To her, a kid was a kid was a kid. It didn't matter what the socio-economic status was. She loved them all and wanted to give them a chance in life. The troubled home lives of some of her students broke her heart. She pushed them academically and set high expectations. The progress these students demonstrated by year's end was extraordinary. She once said, "I don't care if I get into trouble. I'm going to hug my kindergarten students every day and tell them I love them". In turn, they deeply loved her too. One of her happiest times was the day she married the love of her life, Todd Roebken, in September 2015. She was a stunning bride and since her favorite color was purple, her beautiful bridesmaids were dressed accordingly. With tears in her eyes and flashing her beaming megawatt smile, she walked her unsteady dad down the aisle to meet her soon to be husband. A year later, they welcomed their curly-haired blond baby boy, Ryan. He is truly a gift and has inherited his mother's same smile. Sadly, while pregnant with her second son, Walker, Emily left this world way too soon. Our bright shining star was extinguished. Emily, may God bless you, your family, and your unborn son for all eternity. Emily was preceded in death by her grandfather Albert Bucholz, and grandparents Joseph and Margaret Manion. Emily is survived by her wonderful husband Todd Roebken, their son Ryan, sister Erin (Jeff) Swetnam, nephews Michael and Matthew Swetnam, parents Mike and Karen Manion, grandmother Rita Bucholz, in-laws Mariann and Kirk Roebken of Edina, MN, sister-in-law Heather (Jeff) Reimann of MN, and their children, Blake, Brooke, Cooper, and Piper. She is also survived by numerous loving aunts and uncles, and she would want a special shout out to her 14 first cousins, with whom she shared an incredible bond. she also loved her friends, and her two cats, Peanut and Penelope, who all meant so much to her. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 9th from 6 to 7 PM, with a rosary to follow at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 12735 W. 58th Ave., Arvada, CO. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 10th, at 10:30 AM at the same church. A reception and celebration of her life will follow in the Orleans Hall. Burial will then occur at the Golden Cemetery, 755 Ulysses St., Golden. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Mile High United Way-Emily Roebken Early Childhood Fund at www.unitedwaydenver.org. Emily dedicated her teaching career to providing the children she taught with the foundation for high-quality learning, self-confidence, and life success. Emily's legacy of love for children and passion for teaching will continue to shine. Please include Emily Roebken's name to assure proper allocation. Thank you. Also, please share condolences at aspenmortuaries.com. Finally, funeral attendees are encouraged, if so moved, to wear Emily's favorite color, purple.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. Your now an angel up in the sky watching over over friends and family, Emily we will miss you. My condolences to you and your family and your husband and son.

Often called twins, Miss Manion and I would dance up and down the halls at Little Elementary and going to work each day was a joy under her guidance

Miss Manion was my mentor while I was student teaching and receiving my BA/Credential from Regis University. We had a connection and relationship that resembled that of sisters and she quickly became my greatest friend and confidant. Miss Manion taught me the importance of loving my students first and how to help them realize their greatness. During my hardest times, Miss Manion was my shoulder to cry on and hand to hold, and she and I created many amazing memories inside and outside of the classroom. My heart is truly shattered at this news, and I offer my deepest condolences to Mr. Todd and her family/friends. She is a soul that will be forever missed but never forgotten.

I had the singular pleasure of singing with her in Saint Joseph's church choir. She led me to believe in myself and my oft - rusty, off - key singing talent. I laughed at the doors she opened for me . . . the doors of hope and self - confidence. Condolences to her family, extended family and the friends that crossed her path.

My Condolences to the Roebken and Manion families for the loss of a truly great and spirited person - Emily.
I enjoyed singing in the choir with Emily at St. Joseph's in Golden throughout her years there. She was a great inspiration and teacher to those she touched who often sang with her in the choir. I'll always remember her clear melodic voice and the dedication she showed to all of us. Her love of children is unparalleled and truly loving. She is missed greatly and may she rest in heavenly peace with her sweet angel Walker.

I'm a mere acquaintance of Emily's, having met her during the show "Kiss Me Kate" in 2007. We stayed in touch over the years through social media, and I've always enjoyed seeing her beautiful smile light up my screen. Seeing her embrace all that life has to offer - from performing, teaching, marriage, and starting a family - I related to her and loved following her. She was a sweet and beautiful person inside and out, and my heart aches for such an incredible loss. Emily, you will be forever loved and missed by all who knew you, and I will never forget your beautiful smile and spirit. Rest In Peace my beautiful friend.

Emily was one of the most kind hearted people I have ever known. She was so sweet and kind. Her voice was so beautiful, her smile would lite up any room, and her caring eyes made you feel loved. She was amazing in so many ways, and loved by so many.

Todd, the loss you are facing is something that now words can express and I am truly so sorry. You, your amazing son and Emily's family have been in my thoughts and prayers since I heard the news. I have a neighbor that knew Emily and from all that I have heard she seemed like a gift from god. You looked so happy with her and her with you, it was it was true love. Ryan is lucky to have you and I know you will be an amazing father to him. The loss of Walker is devastating as well, that is a pain I know as we lost our son Sutton when I gave birth to him at 24 weeks. Maybe Walker and Sutton are together. No words can express how sorry I am Todd. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I'm so sorry to hear of Emily's & baby's journey to be with her grandparents and all. She was a jewel with such gifts she gave back to her communities.
I pray her families & friends will grieve with the fond memories she brought to all.
I remember meeting her at the Manion Reunions in Creighton NE & Colorado. She sang so beautifully and chose to give to American communities her talents to bring out their gifts.
Her husband, son & family can, through her life she developed, continue giving the talents she gave to them.

Mrs. Roebken was an amazing teacher!! She showed my girls love and encouragement. We will miss her in choir and at mass. We will miss her in the halls of St. Francis and she will be a thought at every music production, because, well, she was simply the best. I am holding Emily's family, relatives, and friends in my thoughts and prayers during this sad time. I first met Emily when she was a 3rd grader at Fairmount Elementary where I taught for several years. She was such a lovely and sensitive person and offered her friendship to all. My daughters were fortunate to know her and dance with her at Action Dance Express through their high school years. I was pleased to reconnect with her on Facebook a couple of years ago and loved seeing all the photos of her beautiful, blossoming life. I am so saddened that her shining light has left the world. Blessings and comfort to her family, friends, her husband Todd, and her precious baby, Ryan.
