Robert Steele

1932 - 2012

Bob Steele, 80, of Lakewood, CO passed away 22 December 2012 after a valiant battle with lung cancer. He was born March 4, 1932 to parents Grace Isabelle Swanke and Edward Lindsay Steele on the family farm in Sandyville, Ohio. He attended Sandyville schools. He graduated from East Sparta High School in 1950. He then graduated from Ohio State University 1955, earning a degree in Mining Engineering. After graduation, he served in the Army with duty in the Army Corps of Engineers in Thailand. After his discharge he worked for Homestake Mining Co. in Grants, New Mexico. He worked in the Uranium Industry in Casper, Wyoming and Kenedy, Texas before moving to Lakewood in 1970. He then attended Colorado School of Mines where he received a Masters degree in Mineral Economics in 1974. In 1979 he was mineral director for the Laguna Indian Reservation in Laguna, N.M. He returned to Denver to work at Energy Fuels. He worked as an consultant. His last employer was Trigon, when he was 75. He was a 60 year member of AIME. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Walter Lindsay Steele of Rosendale, WI., a sister Gladys of Ripon, WI., and another sister Marie Mercer of New Philadelphia, Ohio. He is survived by his wife Helen of 54 years and sons Edward Lindsay (Traci) of Golden CO; Karl Patrick and Scott Andrew of Lakewood and Michael Hugh (Wanda) of Houston, Texas; a granddaughter Samantha Lindsay Steele and grandson Charles Harrison Steele of Golden, CO. He is also survived by two nieces Brenda Steele of Arvada and Barbara Steele of Appleton, WI. A memorial service is planned in late spring at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
