Providence, UT - On May 12, 2024, Daniel Hunter Hoggan, loving father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 94.

Born to George and Mable Hoggan on September 25, 1929, in Lorenzo, Idaho, Dan pursued higher education with vigor, earning a bachelor's degree from Utah State University, a master's degree from Stanford University, and a PhD in civil engineering from Utah State University. His post-collegiate years were marked by service in the Air Force designing air bases, and a distinguished tenure as a civil engineering professor at Utah State University. His academic contributions included teaching classes and publishing books on computer-assisted floodplain analysis. Beyond academia, Dan was an entrepreneur, owning and operating a farm in Lorenzo, Idaho, and a business producing optical lettering guide devices of his own invention. He married R'lene Jensen. They raised two daughters, Sharlene (Denis) and Terri (Kerry), and two sons, Stuart (Audrey) and Todd (Debbie), before their eventual divorce.

Dan was very active and had a number of hobbies including flying (he became a pilot with his own plane), snow skiing, dancing, golf, and traveling. He loved to snow ski and spent many winters skiing at Beaver Mountain, Alta and other ski resorts in the area. He also loved being around people, especially his family and he was always excited to join in on family events. He was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a mission at Temple Square in his later years.

Dan will be fondly remembered by his colleagues, friends, and family alike. His warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering optimism touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, George Ralph Hoggan, his mother, Mable Walker Hunter, and his sister Sarah Hoggan Ralph. He is survived by his four children, Sharlene, Stuart, Terri, and Todd, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Dan could always be found in loving support of everything with which they were involved.

We will celebrate his life on Saturday, June 1 at 12 PM in the White Pine Funeral Home, 753 South 100 East, Logan, Utah. There will be a viewing on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM prior to the funeral at the funeral home. Interment will be at Providence City Cemetery with military honors.
