Earl Stevens Obituary

Earl E. Stevens Will Be Missed Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Earl E. Stevens, 86, passed away in his home in Oakley, Utah, on Sunday, November 26, 2006 surrounded by his family after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Mt. Home, UT to Leslie and Ella Mae Rasmussen. As a child he lived in Mt. Home, Park City, and Oakley, Utah. He served in the Navy during World War II. He married Ramona Stewart on April 16, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many positions including bishop (twice), a counselor in the Stake Presidency, and as a high councilor in the Kearns Utah Stake. Later, with his wife he served a fulltime mission in the Atlanta Georgia Temple. He enjoyed his family, fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing the guitar and harmonica, and collecting good movies. He could fix anything broken and loved to build with his hands. He is survived by his wife, Ramona of Oakley, his sons: Dennis (Michelle), Jeffery (Della), Kevin (Sue), David (Teresa); and his daughters Gay Lynn (Grant) Hatch and Elizabeth (Zane) Woolstenhulme. He was the proud grandfather of 29 grandchildren and 13 great-grand-children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Lawrence and Farrell; sisters Verda and Norma; and grandchildren Lance and Melanie. Special thanks to Applegate Hospice and the V.A. Medical Center in Salt Lake City for their fine care and help. Funeral service will be on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006 in the Oakley/Peoa LDS Ward Building. Friends may call at the church on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Stevens Cemetery in Oakley, Utah under the direction of Crandall Funeral Home.

Grandpa "Great" sure was great. We're glad he's in a better place now but will surely miss him.

Jean and I have very fond remembrances of Bishop Stevens as a church leader, as a man and as a friend. Our associations with your family brings back many fond emories of our youth. Earl's passing is at the same time sad yet joyous. He has earned a "better place" and will be with those who have left before. At the same time, his example and influence will be with us and certainly with his family members as they continue their sojourn here on this earth. Our deepest sympathies and best wishes go out to Ramona and the family at this time.

Ramona and family. I wish to say how sorry I am to hear of Earl's passing. I look back and remember all the good times that I spent at the house in Kearns. I wish so much that I could attend the services for Earl and be able to visit with you and the family. However because of work and commitments that I have for that day I will not be able to make it. I do want you to know how sorry I am and that my thoughts and prayers go out to you and the family. May the Lord bless you and comfort you at this time.
