Judith Mary Wilson, 80, passed away on February 5, 2025.
Judith Mary Backus Wilson was born on September 5, 1944, in Washington D.C., to Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Dodd and Farley Chilton Backus. She was the second child in the family, with an older sister, Barbara, before her. She lived in Silver Spring, Maryland, and graduated from Bladensburg High School. She was a Candy Striper and was starting nursing school, when she was introduced to Rodney Schoff Wilson by her cousin, Jay. Rodney traveled the United States with his best friend, Jay, all the while sending love letters to Judy. Rod and Judy were married on February 16, 1963 and lived in southern California.
Rod and Judy joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on December 26, 1964 thanks to Judy’s childhood friend, Evelyn Moody. They were later sealed in the Los Angeles temple. Rod and Judy were faithful members of the Church for the rest of their lives.
Judy spent most of her time taking care of her large family and serving in the church. She was always making something yummy to eat to take to her ward friends. She loved traveling with Rod, and would often add to her bell collection with bells from all over the world. Later in life, when she was unable to travel, her friends would bring her bells from their travels. She was an avid reader and shared that love with her children.
Judy loves animals, especially dogs. She could often be seen walking the neighborhood with her dog and greeting all the other dogs along the way.
Rod and Judy are the parents of nine children, seven of whom are still living: Wendy Wilson, Andrea Chapman, Colin Wilson, Heather Ingram, Adam Wilson, Erica Andres, and Brook Lowther. They have 26 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Judy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Johnny; sister, Barbara; husband, Rod; daughters, Danielle and Coral; and her grandsons, Bryce and Corey.
