Robert Shyrl Moon, devoted follower of Christ, loving family man, passionate and opinionated about his beliefs, avid fisherman and deer hunter, gifted handicraftsman and machinist who helped build everything from jetliners to school science projects, passed away peacefully March 29, 2014, at home in San Jacinto, Calif. He faced health challenges bravely in his latter days, never tiring of giving his love or his faithful service to God.
Bob (Shyrl to his family) was born September 15, 1933, in Salt Lake City, and later sealed eternally to his mother and stepfather, Ileen and Donald Holmes. He wed Joyce Hansen in 1952, and was soon spoiling their son with adoring love from his birth in 1954. In 1977, he and Joyce divorced.
In 1978, he married his soul mate, Sondra, whom he grew to exalt as "the most wonderful person in this world." They lived 12 years in Springville, a cherished place even after their return to California.
His work making airplanes, from Air Force T-38s to Boeing 747 jumbo jets, spanned 37 years at Northrop Aircraft, where he rose from a $1.50 an hour machine operator to Machine Shop Superintendent. In later years, many callings for the LDS church became his most important work.
Bob is survived by wife Sondra; sister Linda (Gary) Adams; son Robert L.; stepchildren Steven and Dawn; and treasured grandkids Rob, Sarah, Aubrhe, Emily, Kelly and Jenna. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Philip and Mary Diane.
Funeral services 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, LDS San Jacinto Ward chapel.
