Robert Nicholls Obituary

Robert Nicholls
1935 ~ 2013
IVINS, UTAH-Our dear loving husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather passed away suddenly and peacefully on March 4, 2013 at his home in Ivins, Utah.
He was born November 7, 1935 to Barnard and Berenice Nicholls. He graduated from East High School and married his high school sweetheart, Louise Couch, on March 21, 1958 in the Salt Lake temple, soon after returning from an LDS mission in the Northwestern states. After the passing of Louise, he married Adele Clayton on April 9, 1969 later divorced. He then married Linda Linebaugh Berrett on May 24, 1989. They have enjoyed many happy years together including four wonderful years in Germany.
Bob graduated from the University of Utah and served in the Utah National Guard for 10 years. During his life, he established his own insurance agency, Robert L. Nicholls Insurance, specializing in the property and casualty business. His devotion to the gospel was unparalleled. He served in bishoprics, high councils and as a full time missionary with his wife, Linda, in the St. George mission. Most recently, he was serving on the Public Affairs Council of Southern Utah. He was always a missionary and loved the gospel. He took great pride and joy in his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. Dad will always be remembered for his patience, loving nature, faith in the gospel, being a perpetual organizer and maintaining neutrality when it came to BYU and Utah. We will remember grandpa for game nights, lunches at Siegfrieds, BBQs on the patio and his happy disposition. We vow to always remember and carry on the tradition of our Christmas seafood dinner!
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his daughters Kathy Sessions (Mark) and Kari Culbreath (Bill), sister Ann Madsen; Linda's children, Brook Berrett, Radd Berrett, Tiffany Snowden and Kalli Huntsman (Kade); Adele and her children, Cindy Steenblik (LeGrande), Muffy Elder (Denny), Shauna Christensen (Steve), Gene Smith (Holly); and many wonderful grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Red Cliffs LDS 2nd ward Chapel, 625 East Center Street, Ivins, Utah. Visitations will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Thursday, prior to services, from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn in Salt Lake City, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221. Dear Sis Nicholls,

How sad Maureen and I are at the passing of Bob. We remember fondly the years we served together in Hidelberg. They were good and we had a wonderful time. We remember those times and talk of them often. A great man has gone on to even greater service.

We love you as we love him and pray the Lord's choicest blessing will be yours.

Hello Linda, Bill Terry informed us that Bob had gone on ahead to save a seat for you with God. We are sorry for your temporary loss. Here is the note that I left on his page:
...So long for now, Bob - Thanks for being my friend. Thanks for doing for me what my dad was not available to do so many years ago (August 1992). Save a seat for us! We love you ... Brian and Family...

Our best to you,

Brenda, Brian and Family

Bob's influence in our family extends through several generations and over 50 years. As a faithful missionary in Eugene Oregon in 1957, he brought my father into the LDS Church. It was often said that he was the only person who could have converted my father.

For decades, his name was spoken of with honor and deep emotion within my family. We are so grateful for the lasting influence of this kind, sweet, decent and faithful man. Generations mourn his loss and send our collective love.

Linda & Nicholls Family
Our prayers are with you at this time. I can't remember Bob real well, but he grew up in the same ward - Monument Park 2nd Ward -as I did and his mom was a very good friend of my mother's (Norma Humphries). His mom was so wonderful. May you find peace and comfort at this difficult time. He was a great missionary and you may have served in the same mission in St. George as our good friends, Linda & Doug Hansen.

May the Lord bless you and your family at this difficult time.

Love,
Susan Miller
