Bob Smoot Obituary

Thank you so much for your cards, calls, meals, visits, flowers, generosity, and on-going support in so very many ways that have helped us work through the grief and gain courage and strength for what lies ahead.
To our church family that surrounds us with sustaining love; to our family and friends that give us fortitude when weakness overcomes us; and our neighbors who are a comforting and embracing presence.
Special thanks to our trucking family…Bob's love of trucking and expertise in all aspects of Operations made him well-known and respected throughout the Midwest and beyond, but it was the relationships built and kept with drivers over the years that made him happiest. Bob thought that the "good ones out there" are still the majority and even the youngest "cowboys" (as he affectionately called them) would become seasoned vets in the industry when mentored with knowledge, respect, understanding, and a strong work ethic. For 30 years in the sometimes chaotic and demanding environment of trucking, Bob firmly believed that a handshake and a thank you could negotiate solutions rather than escalate problems.
It's hard to imagine anything good coming from the events of May 17, but to honor Bob's life we can live our lives as he lived his - proud to be in trucking with unending positive energy and eternal optimism….and wholeheartedly believing that the cowardly incompetence of evil will always be overcome by good in the end.
