HOWARD HENRY MARSH

Howard Marsh, age 87, died June 3, 2010, at Community Care Center in Stuart where he had been confined since suffering a stroke in January of this year.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday June 7, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter with burial and military rites in the Dexter Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, June 6, 2010, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Dexter where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Howard was born May 29, 1923, in the farm home of his parents, Henry and Anna Marsh, 2 1/2 miles southwest of Dexter. He attended country school through the 8th grade and then went to Dexter High School graduating in 1940. Howard enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He served in England during 1943, 1944, and 1945 when the US 8th Air Force was engaged in daytime bombing raids over Germany. After being discharged from the military service in 1945, Howard spent a year attending IA State College. He then returned to help his father with his farming operation. After his father's death in 1949 he continued farming and later spent many years living and farming the same farm he had been born on. Howard married Geraldine Millhollin Ray in Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter in 1960. They lived on the farm until 1980 when they moved into their new house in Stuart. Howard was a continuous member of Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter from the time of his baptism in 1923 until his death 87 years later. He served several years on the church council and was a member of the building committee at the time of construction of the present church building.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Marsh and a sister Barbara Willrich. Howard is survived by his brother George Marsh of Dexter; sister Marlene Rasmussen of Mesa, AZ, three stepdaughters and five stepgrandchildren.
