Theresa Modtland Obituary
Ankeny
Theresa Mary Modtland, 80, passed away at her home in Ankeny surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 6, 2012.
Theresa was born on December 26, 1931 in Detroit, MI to Walter and Margaret Engelhart and graduated from Hamtramck High School in 1950. She married Ole J. Modtland in 1954 and moved to Ames, IA. The family moved to Ankeny, IA in 1968 and to an acreage near Maxwell, IA in 1975 where she enjoyed the country life. After retirement, Ole and Theresa returned to Ankeny in 2005.
In addition to being a devoted wife and loving mother, she was very active throughout her life in church activities such as Altar and Rosary Society, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Choir & Religious Educator. Community activities that Theresa participated included Ankeny Welcome Wagon, PTA, Maxwell Women's Club, Community Choir & American Legion Auxiliary. She was a compassionate teacher for those with special needs and was passionate about her family, pets and flower gardening.
She will be deeply missed by her husband Ole of 57 years, her six children; Steven, Curtis (Cindy), Sharon (Michael Reis), David (Denise), Mary (Gordon Schuler), Dianne (Roger) Wilkens, four grandchildren; Angelica (Matt) Smith, Michelle Modtland, Brian Modtland, BreAnna Ploeger and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Archie (Alice), Alfred (Helene), Ray (Mary Ella) and a sister Virginia.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Memorial Services of Iowa at Ankeny Memorial, 4208 North Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, IA from 5 to 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church, 510 E. 1st Street, Ankeny, IA, with burial to follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
