Andrew A. Johnson

Andrew A. Johnson, 78 of Monson, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Andrew was born in Springfield on July 28, 1935 the son of the late Andrew and Bertha B. (Munger) Johnson. He was a graduate of Springfield Trade High School. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Springfield. Andrew worked for Monsanto and retired in 2000. He owned and operated Johnson Chassis a family business in Monson, MA for many years. He was the past master of Indian Orchard Lodge AF and AM of Masons, currently known as Brigham Lodge. He was an active member of the Massachusetts Order of Eastern Star and is currently worthy patron of James W. Hannum #150 of Ludlow and Corona #205 in East Longmeadow. Andy was a member of the New England Antique Auto Racing Association. In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by three sisters Lillie Lawton, Ruth Libbey, and Eileene Byram, and two grandchildren Valarie A. Salzarulo and Krystal M. Johnson. In his life nothing was more important than family and friends; whether you needed a home or an ear to listen, he was there. When a race car pulled in the shop after a race or his family came home from star he woke up, put the lights on and wanted all the details. With every start of the engine, or rap of a gavel he will be there. Andrew is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-six years Judith (Flanders) Johnson of Monson, four devoted children Andrew A. Johnson and his wife Joanne of Kannapolis, NC., Kenneth H. Johnson and his wife Kathleen of Palmer, MA., Julie A. Salzarulo and her husband David of Monson, MA., and Kris W. Johnson and his wife Kathleen of Ludlow, and he leaves eight cherished grandchildren Lisa M. Williams, Andrea M. Herring, James A. Johnson, Kendra L. Dean, Stacy L. Salzarulo, Matthew T. Johnson, Lindsey M. Johnson and Julianna B. Johnson, and he leaves 9 great-grandchildren, and a dear friend Victor Mari of Springfield. Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Home Service on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 10a.m. at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home 1858 Allen Street, Springfield, MA, 01118. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery 895 Parker Street, Springfield. A gathering will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 2-4p.m. and 6-8p.m. at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service at 7p.m., followed by an Eastern Star Service.
