Charlotte Owen Obituary

Charlotte Phyllis Brown Owen ARLINGTON-After a long life filled with music, theater, and dance, our beautiful mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Charlotte Owen, passed from this life on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, and is now dancing through eternity, free of pain. CELEBRATION OF LIFE: A celebration of Charlotte's life will be held at a later date. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Charlotte's name to your favorite charity or to the Alzheimer's Association, or pay it forward with a random act of kindness made in her memory. Charlotte Phyllis Brown Owen was born in northern Idaho in the tiny mining town of Kellogg, on Aug. 8, 1924, to Theodore Phillip and Sena Christine Brown. In her early years she was raised by her maternal grandmother, Ella Sather, who she always remembered with fondest regard and love. In her 20s, Charlotte spread her wings and moved to Berkeley, Calif., to work and seek her fortune. It was there she met and married Louis C. Owen (later divorced). They had three daughters, Patricia, Roslyn, and Terry. Her husband's career move brought the Owen family to Southern California in 1959 to manage the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium and in 1966, to Texas to manage the "new" Tarrant County Convention Center in Fort Worth. Charlotte embraced each of these moves as a way to involve herself and her family in the arts. Always cordial and outgoing, Charlotte loved her family, friends, music, theater, dance, bright lights, and bright colors. She lived her life to the fullest and counted her attendance at the Academy Awards as one of its many highlights. Never far from the stage, her favorite jobs were working for the Van Cliburn Association, and volunteering at Theatre Arlington. She treasured her Norwegian heritage and was a member of the Midnattsolen chapter of The Norwegian Society of Texas and loved traveling with the Leikarringen dance group to many Norwegian folk dancing events. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Arlington. SURVIVORS: Charlotte is survived by her daughters, Roslyn (Jack) Glaze and Terry (Craig) Carver of Texas, and Patti Owen (Jerel Casper) of Utah; her sister, JoAnn (Bryce) Blakely of California; grandchildren, Logan Carver, Cameron Carver, Hannah Glaze; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her quick wit and sense of humor, and style will be greatly missed by all. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Don and Glenda Kennedy of the Kennedy Bunkhouse, and Community Hospice for the loving compassion, help and support they have given both Charlotte and her family in the last few months of her life.
