Hazel Webb Obituary

Hazel E. Webb, 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003.

Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Monday in Greenwood Chapel. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Memorials: May be made to Tarrant or American Cancer Society, Salvation Army or Cook Children's Medical Center.

Hazel was born in Denton on Feb. 18, 1923, to Roy and Ruth Hulse. In grade school she moved to Stephenville where she graduated from high school and received her associate degree from Tarleton State College. During this time, she became an accomplished tennis player winning numerous tournaments. During World War II, she worked for Convair performing drafting on the B-24, B-32 and cg load studies on the B-36. Following the war years, she returned to school at the University of Texas, receiving a BS in biology and earning an MS in bacteriology and immunology. Accomplishments and awards earned at UT include president of the UT Biological Sciences Honor Society and member of the American Bacteriology Association, Texas State Biology Society and American Association of University Women. She was a teaching fellow in the UT Zoology Department, performed research for the U.S. Navy in the defefense research lab at UT and also taught at Corpus Christi University. At UT, she met Kenneth Webb, an engineering graduate, whom she married Dec. 31, 1950. Following her academic years, she served on the board of directors of the Brittle Bone Foundation. She was a great teacher not only of academia but also of life’s lessons, encouraging us to help out those less fortunate, appreciate what we have, to live good lives and to look for the beauty in all things around us that, so often, go overlooked. With a quick wit and tremendous sense of humor she enjoyed trading humorous stories, reading Erma Bombeck and considered laughter, next to fishing, as one of life’s greatest joys.

Survivors: Husband of 53 years, Kenneth; sons, Mark and John Webb; granddaughter, Valerie Webb; and grandsons, Ross, Christopher and Michael Webb.

Mark, John and Family,

We only received word today about our family's great loss. Your mother, our Aunt Hazel, will never be forgotten by any of us. It was just two years ago the 7th of November that it was you two who called and comforted us with the loss of our grandaughter Mallorie, now we must be the ones to return that comfort to you. Our prayers go with you now for the peace that only God can give. Bless you all.
