Jerry Bane Obituary

Dr. Jerry William Bane
April 15, 1940 - October 17, 2021
Arlington, Texas - Dr. Jerry William Bane went home to be with God on October 17, 2021, at the age of 81 in Ft. Worth, TX.
Born in Frost, TX, Jerry was the son of Ruby and Dr. W.V. Bane, a Methodist minister. He attended Arlington High School and graduated valedictorian in 1958. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Marsha. Married in 1961, both attended Southern Methodist University. Jerry graduated Phi Beta Kappa and cum laude in 1962. He was also a member of the Southwest Conference's championship SMU swim team.
Jerry's life was dedicated to serving God. After attending Perkins School of Theology, he decided his life of service would be through practicing medicine. Jerry studied at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, interned at the Dallas VA, and did his surgical residence at The University of Mississippi. He then served for two years as a surgeon in the U.S. Army in Nuremberg, Germany.
After many years of school and training, Jerry and his family returned to Arlington, TX, where he began his surgical practice at Arlington Memorial Hospital. While there, he was Chief of Surgery, Chief of Staff, and Physician of theYear. For many years, he treated, and ministered the people of Arlington, where he will be remembered as a healer and a man of God.
Jerry's passion, in addition to his family and being a surgeon, was his church. While living in Arlington, he attended Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of the choir, taught Sunday school, Bible study, and was on various boards.
In 2007, Jerry and Marsha moved to Fredericksburg, TX, in order to be closer to family. While living there, Jerry served as the medical director at the Good Samaritan Center, was a member of the Hill Country Memorial Hospital Foundation Board and was a member of The Fredericksburg United Methodist Church.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marsha Sutherland Bane of Arlington, TX; son Marc (Lynn) Bane of Corpus Christi, TX; and daughter Margaret (Lisa) Wegner of Fredericksburg, TX. He was also a loving grandfather to five wonderful grandkids, Zachary, Jack, Emily, Gus and Sam. Jerry is also survived by his brothers Wilford and David. Jerry was loved by many, and will be missed by countless friends and relatives.
Services to celebrate Jerry's life will be held on Thursday, October 21 at 2 p.m. at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church (1800 N Llano St., Fredericksburg, TX. 78624). A memorial visitation will also be held at Wade Funeral home in Arlington (4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, TX 76013), 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, October 25th. In lieu of flowers, and to honor the life of Dr. Jerry Bane, memorials can be made to the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church or the Good Samaritan Center of Fredericksburg, TX.

The finest Dr, Christian & lover of music & was deeply missed in Arlington. He was the most caring man & he with Marsha made it possible for Trinity UMC to have a legacy in church music with the exquisite Ross King pipe organ. He cared deeply for his family, his church family and his patients &parents.

I worked with Dr. Bane for over 30 years at AMH and I can say that he was one of the most compassionate doctors I ever worked with. I was impressed with not only his surgical skills, but the fact that he always accompanied his patients out of the OR, spent time at their bedsides and kept their families informed of their progress. He had such a good relationship with the nurses and other medical staff and was very pleasant to work with. Dr.Bane was such a gentle soul and left an impact on many. My heart goes out to your family and I pray you find Peace in the many happy memories you have of him.
With deepest sympathy,
Lisa Bearden RN

Dr. Bane was a wonderful doctor and friend of ours while living in Arlington. Our children grew up together. Jerry was a kind and humble man. Marsha, Marc, and Margaret, our hearts break for you. Please feel comforted that God welcomes Jerry in Heaven and will reward him for the life he lived on Earth.

I went to high school with Jerry. Even then one could see greatness in him. He playe3d halfback on our football team. He was the fastest runner I ever saw. Jerry was a warm and caring person, maybe the best human ( ever, knew.

Jerry has touched the lives of so many people in so many ways and they have been blessed. A true servant of God who was Christ centered in all he did surrounded by Marsha they moved mountains with their love and never understood the joy they brought to every occasion. What a beautiful man and a beautiful couple. They will be missed on earth but Jerry is preparing a place for us all in green pastures beside still waters. The heavens are blessed now and forever by his presence. Love to the family who are rich in memories blessed by a life so well lived. May we all serve with the same heart. Love, Gwen and Don Hanna
