Royce was a proven member as a Sons of the Republic of Texas, Daggett Chapter (Fort Worth), meaning that his ancestry in Texas went back far enough to have family living in the days of the Republic of Texas (1835-1845).

Condolences to the family of this true gentleman. I met him when he volunteered at the Fort Worth Central Library. I was the new volunteer coordinator, and he was a seasoned, well-respected volunteer in the Genealogy dept. [So much so that he had a key to the staff entrance to the library! As I grew to know him and appreciate his dedication and skills, I fully understood why he was possibly the only volunteer ever to be granted this privilege and responsibility.]
What a blessing to have this lovely man in your lives.

By Susan D'Arcy Collins, Vigil Service

As I look at everyone here, I realize that some of you have come today because you loved Dad, and some of you are here because you love his family. So Love is the reason we have gathered.

And this brings to mind a line from one of my family's favorite movies, Princess Bride. For those of you unfamiliar with the film it is a classic tale of True Love between the honorable Wesley and his beloved Princess Buttercup. The film begins with love, suffers a loss in the middle, but ends in reunion.

In a quite memorable scene the minister announces to the congregation: Marriage. Marriage is what brings us together today. And 69 years ago, it was a marriage between Mom and Dad, based on their love for each other that branched out through the years, intertwining all of us.

Like the film, we had our honorable Royce, we lost him but we know that in the end there will be a reunion. More than that, Dad's legacy to all of us is the gift of LOVE. That love binds us together and reunites us here to honor Royce Herbert D'Arcy. A man whose life filled us with the strength that love provides.
