David Miesse Obituary

MIESSE David Lee Miesse, of Grove City, Ohio, went to be with the Lord at the age of 72 on May 2, 2007, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. David was a most colorful character, full of life, intelligence and had a love for animals. He was born April 27, 1935, to the late Beryl and Bernice Miesse of Columbus, Ohio. As a teenager, he attended South High School and was a Columbus Golden Gloves Champion. In his early adult years, he used his natural knowledge of electrical engineering to work on projects where he invented multiple electrical pneumatic devices to solve problems for companies. Being a jack of all trades, he could build and repair anything, as he did daily on his family farm in Grove City where he raised his children. During his 45 year career in Thoroughbred horse racing, he was a leading Thoroughbred horse trainer for Ohio. He raced his horses at River Downs, Beulah Park, Mountaineer Park, Keenland, Churchill Downs, Turfway Park, Aqueduct, and Thistledowns. During this time, he was president of the HBPA Horseman's Association and was instrumental in the passing of the Ohio Horse Racing Simulcast Law. As a young father, he and his children grew up together on their farm. They ran a riding stable and had hayrides for local youth and church groups for many years. Throughout his life on the farm, he continually added an assortment of animals to his full stable of horses, including any stray animal that needed a home. Over the years, he also built several ponds for his special love of birds, and an indoor training barn with a guest house, among other projects. David is survived and loved by his four adult children, Terri Marsh of Georgia, Kathy Miesse of Columbus, David (Deidre) Miesse II of North Carolina, and Cindy Miesse (Bob Cowgill) of Grove City, and the children's mother, Jean Schram. He is also survived by his loving six grandchildren, Jenn (Gary) Beggrow, Wendy (Jon) Hoch, David III, Joseph, Ariana and Marena Miesse. Dave is also remembered by special people from his life, former step-daughter, Peggy Hylton and long time friends, Karen Hunley-Pifher, Bill Edwards, Sherry Kanney and Billy Atchison. The family would like to invite friends to come to the celebration of Dave Miesse's life at the family farm 2007 Holton Rd., Grove City, Ohio on Friday, May 4th from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the HBPA Health Fund at 3684 Park St., Grove City, Ohio 43123, phone 614-875-1269. Arrangements entrusted to NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Southwest Chapel. Messages of condolence may be left at www.NewcomerFamily.com.

We have lost a great individual and a great horseman. I remember fondly DD stables and how hard your dad worked to keep that going. I loved the race horses and empathize now even more, how tough that business is. I will never forget in 1972 loading up a horse after school and pulling him with Dave Jr behind David Jr.s Ford Maverick to make the last race at Waterford Park (now Mountaineer Park) and the horse coming in last place. A little disappointment but what an adventure it was to be around your Dad. He'll be dearly missed; I am sure they broke the mold with him. My sincere condolences.

Kathy and Miesse family:
I'm so sorry to learn of your Dad's passing.
Although I only met him a few times, he never failed to make me laugh :) He always seemed so content to live his life on his terms and I know his early passing will be a very sad loss for all of you.
Regrets that I won't be able to join you this Friday in person, but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. With love and sympathy, Elaine

Living next door to Dave was a TRIP always chasing something laugh out loud. Peacocks, Horses or Ducks. He was truly a character!!! My heart goes out to all of you unfortuneatly I only had the pleasure of knowing David II and Cindy. I lost my mother 2 years ago and if you ever need anyone to talk to please know I am available. David is in a great place now with no pain. He will be missed by many. My love and prayers to all.

I have always taken great joy in knowing your Father. His courage and individualism to follow his own path with such creativity and imagination made him an inspiration to many of us. His unwaivering love and support of his children is evidenced by their strong characters, success and devotion to him. Surely, he passed with a full heart. My heartfelt sympathies to all the Miesse family.
