Helge Alfons Gustafson

Helge Alfons Gustafson, 84, of W. 6th. Street, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Lake Haven Manor. A lifelong Duluth resident, he was born Oct. 14, 1917, to John and Hilma (Broo) Gustafson. He was a 1937 graduate of Denfeld High School. Helge married Violet Peterson in Duluth on July 3, 1942, and they just celebrated 60 years of marriage. He had worked at the Grand Bakery, Miller's Cafeteria for eight years, the Northern Pacific Railroad for eight years, Diamond Tool, and for the Duluth School District, at Denfeld High School for 19 years, retiring in 1980. Helge was a member of Elim Lutheran Church and it's Fellowsip Club, where he had served as a past President. He loved photography. Helge's family was very important to him, and he loved spending time with them and all of hisgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Paul. Survivors include his wife, Violet; his daughters, Karen (Mark) Granholm of Proctor, & Janet (Philip) Shaw of Brandon, Fla; his grandchildren, Julie Granholm, Jamie (Ray) Ruotsalainen, Jackie Granholm, Janell (Rob) Sanders, & Chris Shaw; his two great-grandchildren, Megan & Trenton; his brother, Runar (Annett) Gustafson of Minneapolis; and his close cousin, Miriam Smith of Duluth. VISITATION:Friday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service in Elim Lutheran Church. Pastor Jim K. Hagen officiating. Burial will be at Oneota Cemetery.
