Robert Scharenberg Obituary

Scharenberg Robert Theodore "Ted" Scharenberg, 90, passed away Jan. 19, 2016 as a result of complications from Alzheimer's. Ted and his wife resided in Mentor, OH, Whitehouse Station, NJ, and Grove City, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Audrey; wife Jean; and brothers William and David "Gene". Ted is survived by daughters, Nancy (Thomas Vail) Smith, Jan Schar-enberg, and Diana Tessier; son, Jay (Sandy) Scharenberg; grandchildren, Gina DeFranco, Joseph Tessier, William Tessier, Katherine Smith and Jason Scharenberg; great-grand-daughter, Elizabeth Flinner; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Ted was an Eagle Scout and served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was an accomplished chemical engineer with a Masters Degree from The Ohio State University in 1948. He worked at Fasson Division of Avery Products in Painesville, OH and Egan Industries in New Jersey. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grove City. Ted was an active volunteer with the churches in the communities where he resided. In Grove City he also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and was a volunteer at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park. He had many hobbies including wood working, wilderness camping, world traveling, gardening, maple syrup production, and wine making among others. He was known to friends as "Mr. Fix It." Visitation Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, SW CHAPEL, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. Funeral Service Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at 3 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4850 Haughn Rd., Grove City, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Central Ohio Chapter, 1379 Dublin Rd., Columbus, OH 43215. I remember Ted & Jean from North Mentor Methodist Church. Good friends of so many church members. So involved with the church. Good friends of my parents. They were missed when they moved away. My condolences to your family.
