Roland Stout Obituary

Stout, Roland
1929 - 2018
Roland V. Stout, 88, of Punta Gorda, FL., passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 in the hospice house in Arcadia, FL. Roland, aka Skip, was born in Mudsock, Ohio in 1929 to Phillip and Nellie Stout. He was raised and lived the first 44 years of his life in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from West High School and set many records in Track. He attended the University of Cincinnati through the 6-year Architectural Coop program and graduated in 1956. He married his childhood sweetheart, Juanita and had 4 children: Jean, Jeff, Jennifer and Jerry. He became a licensed Architect in OH and designed and built several churches in and around Columbus, OH, as well as, worked for many builders designing homes and housing developments. In 1974, the family moved to Cape Coral, FL. Juanita and Roland divorced after 30 years of marriage. In 1976 he started his Architectural and Development business in Cape Coral, FL. His Architectural firm, Stout & Gerald, Inc., was the first firm in SW FL to offer computerized CAD drafting plans. He designed projects like the Sanibel Harbor Resort hotel and condos and the Le Grand Marquis Condos. His firm averaged 110 design projects per year. He also built and developed several small condo buildings through his building company along with the Arcon Building still located on SE 15th Ave. in Cape Coral, FL. 1980, Roland married Jo Donna (JD) Crites. Roland became a step-father to her daughter, JeNelle. They lived in Matlacha, FL for 13 years while he continued to manage his businesses in Cape Coral, FL. He was licensed in Architecture in Ohio, NC, and FL. He also carried a National Architectural license. Roland was one of the first licensed Special Inspectors in the State of FL. Roland and JD built a couple of homes, remodeled a 28' boat and remodeled their 28' motorhome. There was always a building project going on. They traveled the entire State of FL by boat. They traveled the US by motorhome and motorcycle. They also traveled the world. Traveling was one of Roland's favorite hobbies. In 1996 they stumbled across Alligator Park in Punta Gorda and decided to settle down. Roland helped Alligator Park with their Reverse Osmosis Plant, their sewer plant and was the liaison to the Department of Environmental Protection. JD got involved in the management of the park by serving on the Board and being the park CAM. Roland was not suited to the community lifestyle as he didn't care for all the rules and regulations. They moved approximately a mile and 1/2 away while they continued to own a unit in Alligator Park. Roland made his mark in SW FL by the many buildings he designed and built. Roland and JD were married for 38 1/2 years. Roland was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Jean and by his granddaughter Abi Stout. He is survived by his wife, Jo Donna (JD); his children, Jeff (Carolyn) Stout, Jennifer (Dan) Kelley, Jerry (Karen) Stout and JeNelle (TIm) Dellinger; and his grandchildren, Matt (Robyn) Biggers, Scott (Tennille) Biggers, Judy (Daniel) Pendarvis, Kayla Stout, Kelly (Rich) Chechilo, Kyrstin (Roy) Herpin, Sam Kelley, Madison Kelley, Aurora Stout and Wes Stout; and his great grandchildren, Amber Pendarvis, Ashlee Pendarvis, Amanda Pendarvis, Peyton Biggers, Avery Biggers, Clara Biggers, Hadley Biggers, Cooper Chechilo and Carson Chechilo.
