Tom Lockard Obituary
LOCKARD Tom Lockard, 83, of Wellston, Oh., died Monday evening, May 21, 2007, at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Wellston, April 20, 1924, son of the late Arthur and Anna Maude Thomas Lockard. He was a 1942 graduate of Wellston High School and a 1948 graduate of OSU, where he was a lifetime member of the OSU Alumni. He was a veteran of WW II, ranked as Lt. Col., U.S. Army Air Corp, B-24 Pilot. He was well known as the owner and agent of Lockard Insurance. He was very active in the community, serving as president of the Wellston Rotary Club, where he received Multiple Paul Harris Awards. He was president of the Wellston Area Chamber of Commerce, a member of American Legion Post #371, the VFW, Black Diamond Lodge #538 F&AM, the Shilo Shrine Club, the Wellston Historical Association, and various state and international stamp clubs. He served on the Jackson County Health Board, the Jackson County Airport Authority Board, and the First National Bank Board of Directors. He was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jacquelyn Reed Lockard; 1 son, William Thomas "Chip" Lockard Jr. (Alix) of San Francisco; 2 daughters, Ann Helbling (George) of Dresden, Oh. and Lisa Barnhouse (Sam) of Hillsboro, Oh.; 1 brother, Dan Lockard (Norma) of Wellston; a maternal aunt, Helen Witherall of Athens, Oh.; 6 grandchildren, Andy Helbling of Walnut Creek, Calif., Tom Helbling (Simone) of Portland, Oreg., Samantha Barnhouse of Hamilton, Oh., Will Barnhouse of Richmond, Ky., and Zoe' and Brice Lockard of San Francisco; also dear friends, Jerry Ghearing (Carol) of Wellston and Peggy Schumate (Bill) of Wellston. Service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Hope United Methodist Church in Wellston with Rev. Glen Herman officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery with Military Honors by the Ohio Air Force Honor Guard and American Legion Post #371. Friends may call at the JENKINS FUNERAL CHAPEL, Wellston, on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Masonic service will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. at the chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions in Tom's name can be made to a charity or organization of their choice.
