William Bartels Obituary

BARTELS William B. Bartels, Jr., age 89, beloved husband of Jean (Eugenia) and loving father of Barbara, Lake Barrington, Il. and Kenneth Alan (deceased), passed away peacefully September 22, 2012 at Freedom Village Nursing Center, Bradenton, FL. His wife of 67 years, and his daughter, were at his bedside. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Bill attended Ohio Wesleyan and Ohio State Universities and was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity before becoming an equally proud member of the U.S. Army Air Force and later a graduate of Capital University. Bill lived many years in Columbus before moving to Riverlea. He operated his own Insurance Agency in Columbus and was a member of North Community Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong OSU fan, an avid golfer, bridge player and traveler. Because he loved the warm Florida winters, he moved with his wife to Bradenton where he has resided for the past 25 years. A Memorial Service, with Military Honors by American Legion Kirby Post 24, was conducted at Freedom Village Retirement Community in Bradenton on September 29, 2012 by Rev. Sung H. Lee, Chaplain. Interment in churchyard, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bradenton, FL., at a date to be announced. Donations may be made in his honor to the Freedom Village Memorial Scholarship Fund, 6501 Seventeenth Ave. W., Bradenton, FL 34209.
