William Peters Obituary

WILKESBORO - Mr. William Joseph Peters, 100, died Friday, July 21, 2006, at his home. Mr. Peters was born Nov. 1, 1905, in Portsmouth, N.H., to Giuseppi and Carmela Coio Mastopietro. He was a World War II veteran who served in the Philippines with the 31st Infantry "Dixie" Division from 1942 to 1945. He worked for the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C., before managing a country inn in Lakeville, Conn., with his wife, the late Rowena Smithey Peters of Hays. Before moving to Wilkesboro in 1995, he managed a private club and restaurant in Boca Raton, Fla. Mr. Peters is survived by his four children, two daughters, Carmela Peters of the home and Pamela Peters and husband Walter Putrycz of Franklin, N.Y.; two sons, Len Peters and wife Emmanuelle Loustaunou and Ronald Peters and wife Laurie Traylor, all of Boca Raton; two brothers, Anthony J. Peters of Fort Myers, Fla., and Vincent J. Peters of New York, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Keegan Rowena Peters, Elizabeth Nora and Josef Evan Putrycz. The family will be at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, with a memorial service to follow in the chapel at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Wilkes County Quilters, P.O. Box 456, Wilkesboro, NC 28697, or to Hospice of Wilkes, 1907 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
