Lester Wayne Magers

MANTACHIE – Lester Wayne Magers, 81, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at North Mississippi Veterans' Home in Oxford. He was born Aug. 2, 1932, to William Audie and Carrie Brown Magers. He was a graduate of Itawamba High School and attended Itawamba Junior College. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, he returned home and worked at Blue Bell and Day-Brite Lighting. He retired from Sears in 1993 after 26 years of service as a service technician. He was a member of Centerville Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing; going to auctions and yard sales; making crafts, especially the little tin-can chairs; and listening to gospel singing. He loved his family, friends and his little cat, Friske.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Greg Jones and Ricky Lesley officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Frances Thompson Magers; one son, David Magers (Cindy); and one daughter, Anita Stanford (Steve), all of Mantachie; four grandchildren, Melissa Magers of Belmont, Shane Stanford of Tupelo, Matthew Magers of Corinth and Daniel Magers of Mantachie; two great-grandsons, Drew Stanford and Colby Stanford; one sister, Lucille Trammel of Mantachie; one sister-in-law, Linda Curtiss of Mantachie; three brothers-in-law, Kelly Thompson (Evelyn) of Tupelo, and Scottie Thompson (Eillene) and Kelcy Shields (Judy), both of Mantachie; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Luther Magers (Lola Jean); two sisters, Luna Weaver (Noel) and Lila Parham (Charles); two brothers-in-law, Buddy Trammel and Joe Curtiss; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Shields.
Pallbearers will be Grant Shields, Frank Shields, Britt Curtiss, Shane Stanford, Dale Parham, Steve Weaver and Jerry Weaver.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
