Leonard Lethaby Obituary

Leonard Lethaby
April 29, 1952 - July 8, 2016
Resident of Bay Point
Leonard Gordon Lethaby III passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 8th, 2016, after a courageous 8-month battle with health complications after surgery. He was just 64.
The world greeted Lenny on a spring day, in Erie, Pennsylvania. The family soon moved out to Tucson, Arizona, where Lenny spent his days running through the dessert becoming a passionate nature enthusiast and animal lover.
In 1976, he joined the Army and trained at Ft. Hood as a soils testing engineer. After discharge, he moved to California accepting a job with the USDA Forest Service as a lab tech for soils testing. When the lab closed, the Forest Service moved to Mare Island where he became the building manager until retirement.
In 1994, he fell in love with the girl next door, Leslie, his best friend, and love of his life. Two years later they were married and celebrated their union in conjunction with the celebration of Leslie's parents' 50th wedding anniversary with a party sharing their joy with many extended family and friends.
While working for the Forest Service, he continued to take courses improving his knowledge. In retirement, he pursued crafting amazing pieces of carpentry and household projects. He was well-versed and knowledgeable on current events. He volunteered for the community. He was an avid Giants and 49ers fan, often seen tailgating at the games and rallying for his teams.
Known for his pure and generous heart, we thank this extraordinary man for passing on to us his Gift of Giving, Devotion to Animals, Love of Music and the Arts, Zest for Life and Incredible Sense of Humor. Who could forget that laugh?
He is preceded in death by his father, Leonard Gordon Lethaby II, mother, Shirley Taylor, and brother, Dennis Lethaby. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Leslie LaVerne, sisters, Dianne Lethaby and Suzanne Braxton, mother-in-law, LaVerne Riordan, brothers-in-law, Dr. William Riordan (Claudia), Timothy Riordan, John Riordan, and many loving aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
The family will be having a celebration of his life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Judes or ASPCA.
Rest Easy Brave Soldier; you fought the bravest fight.
"Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever."

Best brother anyone could wish for. He's with you Leslie. He fought as long and hard as he could because he didn't want to leave those of us who loved him. May he rest in peace.

Such sad news hearing of Lenny's passing. What a strong yet kind and gentle man. Lenny was one of my supervisors and hands down one of the best. It did not take long to become friends. I learned early on the amazing love that he had for Leslie and his family. When he spoke about Leslie, he would light up like a beacon and rightfully so. She is a lovely sweet lady that I am so privileged to call a friend. To Leslie and Lenny's family members, I want to express my deepest and heartfelt sympathy. May God hold you all near and guide you through your difficult journey. Lenny will be missed by many.

My heart goes out to Leslie and to Lenny's family. Although I never "met" Lenny in person, I feel like I've known him for a long time through Leslie. He was indeed a kind generous man who will be missed by all.
