Manuel Monte Andrade

MANUEL MONTE ANDRADE Died Wednesday, January 10, 2002. He was 87 years old. Mr. Andrade was born August 15, 1914 in Oakland, CA where he lived with his parents Cesar and Wilhemina and their two other sons Frank and Joe. Manuel moved at the age of 7 with his family to Madeira Island, Portugal and remained there to complete his education. After high school, two years of college, Manuel returned to Oakland at the age of 21 and worked odd jobs until he was hired at the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. He became an accountant in the shipping department and worked there 30 years and retired. A veteran of WWII. Served in the U.S. Army for 4 years. Manuel was active in Portuguese organizations including APUMEC, ICDES, IDES, Brotherhood of St. Anthony Council #4, Luso American, Santa Maria Madalenia, SES and Nossa Senhora DeLoreto. His wife Lea of 52 years survives Manuel. Three nephews Cesar, Joseph and John Andrade and a niece Linda Andrade in New Jersey, two other nephews Wayne and Chuck Niethold in San Francisco and Martinez, a sister-in-law Amy Niethold and her husband Chuck Sr. of Yuma, AZ; brother-in-law George Souto, Godchildren, Michael Fernandes, David Alves, and Natalie Niethold. Friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral Monday, January 14, 2002 at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church for the Funeral Liturgy beginning at 10:00 A.M. Burial Chapel of the Chimes Cemetery- Oakland. The vigil service will be Sunday at 4:30 P.M. at SANTOS-ROBINSON MORTUARY. Visitation begins Sunday from 11:00 A.M. - 5:30 P.M.
