Richard Straub Obituary

Richard "Dick" L. Straub Jun. 30, 1942 - Dec.12, 2011 Our dad Richard passed peacefully in his home on December 12, 2011. He was born on June 30, 1942 to Bud and Eleanor Straub, and was a lifelong resident of both Pittsburg and Antioch. He graduated from Pittsburg High in 1960, attended DVC, and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1962. He was stationed at McGuire AFB in New Jersey, Keesler AFB in Mississippi and Thule AFB in Greenland, "The Top of The World." While on leave in November of 1962, he married his first wife, Connie Silva (Borgmeyer) and had two daughters, Tina and Kelly. He was employed with DuPont for 34 years and retired in 1998. He enjoyed the outdoors, and was an adventure seeker, whether it was in the desert, mountains, or ocean, he loved it all. His motto was "If it's broke, I'll fix it." He was a Board Member of the Antioch Bocce Federation, a life member of the V.F.W. Lodge #6435 in Antioch, a member of the American Legion Post 161, former member of Pittsburg Elks Lodge #1474, Save Mt. Diablo, Sierra Club, and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed volunteering at many community functions. Until his passing, he sat as Neighborhood Watch Block Captain. He helped sponsor "Keep Antioch Beautiful," and attended Friday Morning Breakfast Club meetings. He was active in city clean-ups with other Take Back Antioch supporters and volunteers. "Concerned citizens, of which, we are a minority, are not trying to make Antioch better, we are trying to keep Antioch from becoming worse." - Dick Straub, September 2011. Proceeded in death by his mother, Eleanor Bissell Minugh in 1987 and his father, Frances "Bud" W. Straub in 2006. Dick is survived by his stepmother, Patricia Straub of Pittsburg. His 2 daughters, Tina DeRita and son-in-law Darrin of Danville, Kelly Royse and son-in-law Bill of Elk Grove. His 4 Grandchildren, Brittani, Steffani, and Jarid DeRita and Daltry Royse. His longtime love and lifetime friend, Gina French and her family, many cousins and a cat named "BJ." A memorial service and reception will be held on January 7, 2012 beginning at 10:30AM at Higgins Funeral Chapel, 1310 A Street, Antioch. The Red Caboose in Antioch will also be hosting a reception that same day beginning at 1PM. He will receive Military Honors at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery in Dixon, during a private ceremony in January. Please visit www.Higginsmortuary.com for addition photos of our dad.

Well Dick, I will miss you dearly. The Crime Prevention Commission meetings, FMBC as well as other events will miss your personality. When I see a pair of crocks, I will think of you. Little silver trucks with a camper shell, I will think of you. And when I think of changing my hair color, I will think of you..and smile.
